Movietyme are a US company so it's not an earth-shattering discovery to hear that their discs are sourced from the US.

Re: Blade Runner - HD DVD / BluRay

They probably do more than any other company I know to let you know what regions discs actually are aswell. So UK owners can play US sourced discs on their region B players.

I recently got caught out by MovieTyme when I ordered Sunshine on Blu-Ray as they don't state anywhere on the page which region code is being used on the film, and as the prices were quoted in GBP I foolishly assumed it was Region 2/B. However in the order confirmation email that they send you it does mention their disks are US and that it's necessary to check a region-free page to see if the ordered disks are on the list, but it's an arse about face system as this information is sent to you AFTER you have already placed your order! Also I didn't read it as I thought it was just standard boiler plate legalese.

In short, I find MovieTyme a pain in the arse and will shop elsewhere in future - they should make it clear on each movie page that the disks are region 1/A unless they are region-free with a link to the region-free checker page. Providing this information post-sale is simply not good enough.

Needless to say they won't offer a refund on purchases that are unplayable due to region-coding issues.
if you go to the drop down category list at the left side of the movietyme website you can see that have a section specifically for blu ray region free titles, it's not hard to find.

It really pays to "do reading", doesn't it?

Aha - good news! I had an email exchange with MovieTyme last week when I discovered my mistake and suggested they add the appropriate region code to each page to avoid confusion (much as I said above). I double checked Sunshine at the time and it definately had no region code in the Tech Details section, or anywhere else on the page for that matter.

It looks like they took my advice although they didn't reply to my email. I may now put MoveTyme back on my approved suppliers list as they're no longer intentionally confusing buyers and denying refunds as a result. :D

How is that immediately obvious from their website?

Looks like they changed their policy in the last week - possibly as a consequence of an email exchange I had with them.

I wasn't looking for a region free title - I was looking for Sunshine. I looked for region code details on Sunshine and looked elsewhere on the site for their Region code policy, but unfortunately I didn't find the "Region Free" link in the list and consequently failed to put 2+2 together.

The point is, MovieTyme (until recently) did not make it at all obvious that discs were Region A coded, or that they were even a US-based site, until they sent out the post-sales confirmation email!

But individiual region codes is a new addition. And unless you are looking for region free films your suggestion is pointless - I was looking for Sunshine, ie. a specific film. So I went to the Sunshine page. It didn't say it was region A, region B, or region free. How was I supposed to know that the "region free" section existed or that I had to check it to divine that Sunshine is free or not (still wouldn't have told me it was A or B). I don't understand you're suggestion, it's irrelevant.

Re: Blade Runner - HD DVD / BluRay

I've checked some other movies on MovieTyme and the presence of region code information is hit & miss so it looks like MovieTyme may only add region codes when receiving confirmation/complaints that a particular film is coded with Region A!

A simple line of text in the Tech Details section for each and every Blu-Ray title along the lines of "All movies should be assumed to be Region A unless listed in the Region Free section [link]" would eliminate any confusion for UK buyers. I don't know why MovieTyme don't add it. Providing this information as boiler plate text in a post sale email is not acceptable.

Re: Blade Runner - HD DVD / BluRay

This thread is going severely off topic.

There are two clear links to a list of tested Region Free Blu-Ray titles from the front page of the Movietyme website.

That should end this (off topic) discussion surely .....

my post about movietyme having the region free section for months was in reply to your post that it was your recent email that had made them change.
you made a mistake ordering sunshine with the wrong region code without checking... get over it and move on.. lifes too short .

Re: Blade Runner - HD DVD / BluRay

After umming as arring for ages as to whether to get the 5 disc US version, I popped into Gamestation at the weekend and found a pre-owned 2 disc version for £16.99. Watched it on Saturday night and was gob-smacked how good the PQ was compared to previous versions. This is in my top 5 films of all time so have watched it so many times I know it inside out but I kept on spotting details I had never spotted before, like Holden's stack of three cheese sandwiches in the opening scene. I had never noticed that before!

Furthermore, they have only refunded the purchase price plus the postage back to them but not the import duty. I suspected they wouldn't refund this which is why i asked for a replacement so i am not more than £11.00 out of pocket with nothing to show for it.

Can ayone recommend where i may get this from without having to pay import duty. Anyone bought from Amazon.com without having to pay import duty.

Cheers
Just thought i would gladly report that i have recieved my Blade runner discs all present and correct from Movietyme. Hooray for Movietyme!

Still no response from PlayUSA after asking for an explanation - very disappointed with them - would heartily not recommend them
