What are the best FILMS on high def (not necessarily the best high def demos)
Which are the best films out there on HD DVD & Blu-ray Disc?

I'm not talking about films that look particularly fantastic in high def, just that the films are good.

I'm posting this because, having bought a few discs at the recommendation of 'Best high def demos' threads, I've found myself with several titles which look great, but which I'd never watch.

Of my limited collection (15 discs) Bourne Supremacy is my favourite, i love the film.

I own the matrix box set and so you can't over look the first film.

The films in I have rated highest so far are Blood Diamond and Stranger than Fiction, the Prestige is also excellent.

Also looking forward to Born on the 4th of July and Casablanca delivered from Movietyme. Watched both films on TV and were excellent.

La Haine on HD DVD.

Girlfriend got it for me randomly, I had never heard of it before. Really powerful film. Excellent!

Well, I've just replaced my SD version of Pirates of the Caribbean with the Blu-Ray version - haven't seen the quality yet as my plasma is away for repair and not due back till tomorrow. It is, however, a really good light hearted action feel good film and it's going to be the first disc I use to christen my new av amp and speakers

I really enjoyed the Manchurian Candidate which I watched the other day, also a good disc.

Apparently Payback -Directors Cut is also very good.

I picked both up for around £20 at Movietyme.

Kung Fu Hustles excellent, very different, entertaining and great PQ/AQ.

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is amazing! Now one of my favourite films of all time. The Rock has always been a fav of mine too.

I cant speak for Blueray, but on HDDVD, I would say

Casablanca
Spartacus
First Blood
Million Dollar Baby
The Last Samurai
Fearless (Jet Li)
Batman Begins
Planet Earth
Equilibrium (Japanese import only - if you can get it)

The above are not necessarily the best for PQ, but certainly are better than their DVD counterparts, and cracking films IMHO to boot

I'll second (or third) "The Rock." Watched that last night and it was great. I like Hell Boy as well.

I'm sure I'll be crucified for saying this but I think Clerks 2. The lord of the rings part had me in stitches, as did all the ATM stuff.

Ok this thread is seriously bad for my bank balance. Been looking at some of the films listed (i.e. the Rock) and hadn't realised they were out. Could be an expensive month.

I haven't purchased all of my favourites yet. Mainly renting via lovefilm. But this website is a good guide.

i know its already been said but i just want to add the film The Thing had this disc for about 6 months but never got round to watching it untill last night and boy does it rock-excellent transfer considering the age of this film---well recommended

I watched Casino last night in HD.. A whole new experience, the detail on that pen, namely the human tissue thats stuck on it after Pesci stabs the guy in the neck is as crisp and gorey as anything i've seen..

Cant recommend Casino in HD enough.. oh yeah and Kung Fu Hustle.

how anyone can compare Batman Begins -excellent-to First Blood -y awful I have no idea

The Decent is great on BD (the car crash was just horrific even though I saw it coming without before seeing the film), Con Air, Matrix, POTC, Casino Royale,

Took my HD-DVD add on round to my friends last night to give him a demo on his 40" LCD.

Tried 3 discs. MI3 looked excellent. Seabiscuit and KK looked sensational

Granted, all 3 (imo) are not in the upper tier of The best films on HD but I think they sold him over

best so far has to be
the fog
effects and hd 5/5
sound 5/5 the subwoofer on this was working at its best amazin
