Why does Paramount demote Blu-Ray audio?

We've seen this for countless titles from Paramount:

"Comparing the audio package on this Blu-ray release to its HD DVD counterpart, unfortuntely Paramount once again continues its trend of inequity. While this Blu-ray gets a 640 kbps Dolby Digital 5.1 surround mix, the HD DVD gets a healthier 1.5mbps Dolby Digital-Plus track, and in a direct compare the Blu-ray is audibly thinner -- particuarly during scenes where Lazarus plays his guitar and moments with the aforementioned sound of the dragging chain."

Why do they keep doing this? Surely with the extra space on blu-ray we should be getting an audio upgrade, not downgrade. Anyone know why they do this?

Re: Why does Paramount demote Blu-Ray audio?

There is a rumor on the avs forums that Paramount will be switching to lossless audio with the release of Blades Of Glory and so on......

We will have to wait and see if this turns out to be true.

I hope they do. It's bad enough that they dont use the extra space to give us lossless audio now but to demote the audio just makes me wonder how comitted they are to BD.
