Blue Ray release titles better than HD dvd?

Hi All,

At the moment I am using the HD DVD format, so I am not biased against the format. What I am frustrated at is that when I compare BD to HD the titles released under BD format are very recent titles! Now whilst I love old and new films I think that HD format really needs to start releasing newer films to get the public to follow it.

Any comments?

Makes me want to get a BD player as well!!

Joe

Re: Blue Ray release titles better than HD dvd?

I own both formats and dont really have a preference, I will buy whatever has the best release or is available quickest/cheapest.

When I look at the upcoming Exclusive titles to each format which I have on order or will order depending on release info.

There are 12 HD DVD Exclusive titles I will likley get and 3 of those are new releases (Hot Fuzz, Heroes S1 & The Contract)

There are 10 Blu-ray Exclusive titles which I will consider and 3 of those are also new releases (Premonition, Vacany and Wild Hogs)

Now if I compare those new release exclusive titles the HD 3 are must have (for me) whereas the Blu-ray's will be a case of catching up with films (poor ones possibly) which I missed at the cinema.

That could all change if Fox get their act together

I agree both have excellent releases. Probably a case of the grass look greener....

And we shouldn't forget either that certain Blu-Ray studios have not published release dates for titles that were previously announced at the start of the year.

At least the likes of Universal are releasing titles even if it isn't always the newer releases we want.

Well, I'm dual-format, and I think that's the way to go if you can afford it.

I appreciate that there have been a number of back catalogue titles on HD DVD, but the implication of high def is that we already have SD DVD, but you can have more if you really love film.

If you really love film, I'm not sure the balance of new v old counts for as much.

'Casablanca' or 'Fantastic 4'?

Yes steve! I agree, and I bought casablanca as soon as it was released! Its a superb film with a great transfer.

I'm not rubbishing hd dvd, but was just concerned that it may fade in popularity if newer titles arent released, e.g. the same time new sd dvds are released.

Re: Blue Ray release titles better than HD dvd?

If it's any help (and it may not be), I've posted a list of some of Universal's (HD DVD exclusive...unless things change) releases for '08 at the other thread (Format Wars).

It looks better than all the 'Casino Royale's & 'POTC's put together.

It might just come 18 months too late. But if HD DVD is still giving BD a run for its money by the time this lot is released (presumable before Christmas '08) it'll guarentee a dual-format future at the very least.
