Re: Starwars

I don't think they are even going to think about a HD Version of the films untila format 'winner' is decided and the instal ase is a hell of alot bigger than it is now

Although i think the first 6 film box set for Star Wars will launch on a HD format first before DVD

Just like the original Trilogy versions wouldn't get released on DVD.

Weren't Lucasarts one of the first lot to mention Blu-ray?
I thought they were harping on about it before DVD even really got going in the UK.

No, I think they said they had no plans to release on either format yet, not that they'd never release them in high def.

Re: Starwars

Yeah for a guy who wants to be at the leading edge of technology, Lucas is very backwards when it comes to HD releases, I mean the Star Wars trilogy, didn't get released on DVD until the format was approaching its end of life, so it looks like the same will be through of the HD formats.

It is in HD if you know where to look.

DVD will be around for a very long time yet. There are too many millions of people using it. It might even be around after Blu Ray and HD DVD.

Re: Starwars

they've already been broadcast at 1080i on Sky HD, and ep 1-3 are stunning, ep 4-6 are v good too - presumably the HDWMV versions, which play on xbox 360 are HD TV rips. Good enough for me.

Aren't the ones on SKY HD just good upscales beinf broadcast? Could an SD Upscaling DVD player produce the same results?

Persoanlly i think we'll see the movies released in 3D before a HD format. I know Lucas has said that the Star Wars films will be amoung the first played in 3D Cinemas when they get going

Just think , sitting at home lights out , turning on your 40 or 50" lcd or plasma and watching Starwars in HD or BLUE-RAY in 1080P with the volume up full , how amazing would that be

Re: Star Wars

Has anyone got a link to a HD trailers of any of the films. Perhaps, Episode III as it was the last one and most likely to be in HD trailer form somewhere. I can only find a Hi Res as the best quality.

Re: Star Wars

no they arent SD upscales, they are clearly HD, as razor sharp (particularly ep 1-3) and you get the 3d effect and depth effect that you dont get with upscaled DVD.

Yeah, I noticed a 1080p WMVHD 13GB version of Episode IV the other day, and it's the one where Hans shoots 1st for those that always cried out for that version!

Yep, I've got the 1080i versions of episodes 2,3&4. They all look stunning. In fact I'm very impressed at the HD version op EP4.

They look better than simple upscales to me on my 1080P Samsung

They've been available in HD for a while now, just like most films in the States, simply because they've had HD tv for a lot longer than us....I know that Raiders of the Lost Ark (another Lucasfilm film) has been broadcast in HD over there too...

Stop. Lining. George. Lucas'. Pockets. How many times have Star Wars fans shelled out for a "new" version of the films? I say stick to your SD discs. Oh, the prequel trilogy sucked anyway so forget them altogether.

That evil Gerorge Lucas, sending out his Stormtroopers to force people to but new releases like the Theatrical version that people were crying out for to be released.

Yes, and he also made sure that you had to have the rubbish special editions included as well whether you liked it or not.

The Theatrical version that, IIRC, he said could never be released because it simply didn't exist anymore, so we all went and bought the other version, thinking it was better than nothing, then surprise, surprise, Georgie pops up again saying "Look what I've found stuffed down the back of the setee"

I dont think a non-anamorphic laserdisc port is what everyone was crying out for.

What's the betting that in a year or so, he'll decide out of the goodness of his heart to produce a top notch, anamorphic release of the "original" trilogy?

Of course that'll be on standard DVD, then we'll have the doctored releases on in some flavour of HD, with promises of the "original" trilogy never being released, until of course he gives in to the fans and releases them in HD too.

Cynical mois?

i agree, they will eventually release this on every format going, i think they will only say that no HD version is coming so folks will keep buying the existing versions on DVD in the meantime.

I'm also sure they will release some sort of box set with all 6 episodes on DVD before they do the HD version.
