The Fifth Element Exchange Program

The Fifth Element Exchange Program
http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=252
Posted June 14, 2007 by Josh

Sony Pictures When Blu-ray first launched, there were great expectations for the titles released. That was especially true for 'The Fifth Element', which had been a home theater enthusiast favorite on DVD. Unfortunately, the results were less than stellar, but Sony is here to atone! Those who purchased 'The Fifth Element' in its current form can exchange the disc for the new, cleaned up version of the film, due out July 17th.

The disc will come as a BD-50, encoded with AVC, and have two lossless/uncompressed audio tracks: the same PCM track from the original release (which was quite excellent) and a 20-bit Dolby TrueHD track. The extras remain the same, but the film has been remastered for a cleaner/crisper video experience.

Right now, Sony is taking down your name, mailing address, and phone number and will contact you closer to the release of the remastered version on how to exchange your disc. When you call, have that information ready, or if you are emailing, make sure to place it in your message. Here is the contact information:

Phone: 800-860-2878

Re: The Fifth Element Exchange Program

I didn't buy the original but will definitely be getting the re-mastered version.

It's great to see Sony replace the original for all those early adoptors.

Lets hope it's all worth the hassle Sony are putting into this title. Sony needs more must own discs.

Very late but Sony have come good. Quite impressed, an email telling me it would happen would have been better however and prevented me buying the disc again however

Indeed, if they had confirmed I could have informed them I no longer own the original version.

However I was subjected to the inferior version and made a loss in selling so a replacement is still the least they could do

have they come good, or just said that they are looking at whether they can do anything?

Although I've now bought the new version, so I'll have two (like with Casino Royale).

Re: The Fifth Element Exchange Program

The new version also has a gold sign saying "Full HD 1080" on the bottom left of the back cover.

I only emailed them my name and address details last week (18th) after seeing that they had started sending out replacement copies on here, so you should still be able to get a copy.

Last emails i had sent before that were enquiring about any exchange only, no details were given then!

Good luck!

Re: The Fifth Element Exchange Program

A quick question,
I sent an email on Friday(got a reply that evening)and they said they would send a replacement disc after they recieved my disc (still in shrink wrap,)which is understandable.Should i hold onto the case i currently have?
Have people recieved a disc and cover as a replacement or just the disc?
Thanks,
Mark.

I just emailed my name and address, four days later they sent me a brand new sealed remastered version, same as if i had just bought it from a shop, not just the disc.

Didn't ask for my original back at all, i'll probably bang it on ebay.
