I've recently signed up to www.lovefilm.com, and they're really good. Their library of HD DVD's seems to be growing all the time.

Highly recommended!

There are several offer codes around - read one this morning on here for getting 30 days free (but can't find now). Myself I've just finished a 3 month free trial and they were very good. They also do a good range of BD and HD DVD's (144 & 91 titles respectively). When I joined it took three days before I got my first films - guess they check your credit history etc. Worth a try and lots cheaper than Blockbuster!

Re: best place to rent HD dvd movies?

I've just started using Lovefilm for the past few weeks and they have been excellent. They have around 70 HD DVDs available and I have a lot on my list. Recently, I couldn't get "V for Vendetta" to play on my PC (more an issue with the XBox compatibility with PowerDVD 6.5 and my PC than actual problems with the disc) and they sent me out another copy within a few days along with "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire". Since when, I have now got PowerDVD Ultra and the movie played fine. The HP film went jerky during the Dragon fight sequence and I thought I had a dodgy disc but when I restarted PowerDVD it was fine and the scene played normally. I guess these glitches are to be expected sometimes with the XBox 360 HD DVD drive and PC.
So far Lovefilm have been excellent. I'm on the £4.99 a month for 2 discs and when I send these back I'll get one at a time over the rest of this month. They go by the "Month" name as opposed by how many weeks your account is i.e. I get 2 discs sent out for July regardless of when my account started, so long as I send the current movie back in time.

Re: best place to rent HD dvd movies?

An annoying problem with LOVEFILM is that if you need to cancel for any reason, and there are lots of reasons why you may just want to give it a rest is that you cannot cancel on line like you can with AMAZON.

Instead with LOVEFILM you have to ring up and talk to some character trying to persuade you to stay.VERY VERY annoying.

I have been persuaded to go back to AMAZON because of this but NOT to LOVEFILM.I hope they are reading this.

Re: best place to rent HD dvd movies?

I went with the Tesco version of LoveFilm.

The range of blu-ray and HD titles looks the same, plus it's a little cheaper.

And with Tesco you know you're gonna get hassle-free service.

Very impressed so far.

Well so far I've had a "hassle-free" service with Lovefilm so I'm not about to switch over to someone else. I admit, it's a bit odd that you have to ring up to cancel to be honest, but when I've made my mind up, no character on the other side of a phone line will change my mind, if I ever decide to cancel in the future!

Re: best place to rent HD dvd movies?

Excellent service from lovefilm so far. Did take a few days for them to check my credit etc, but now i'm in the full swing of it there's a 2 day turnaround on HD DVD's. I send one back on Monday, they get it on Tuesday and send my next one out the same day, I get the next disc on Wednesday. can't say fairer than that IMO.

I'm currently on the max package. It's £18.99 per month for 3 discs at a time, but an unlimited amount over the month, and includes games!

The plan is for it to stop me buying so many games, and it's brilliant as I can keep the game as long as I want.
