$5 = £2.50 = maybe £1.75 by the time it's discounted at Amazon.

I doubt that'll have the same impact as the lack of features.

I wonder what impact this will have on PS3 owners?

Many have been sold the PS3 as the best, biggest, baddest, most future-proof, all singing, all dancing machine, that can do a million and one thing the Xbox360 can't, and even has a high def film format better than the 360s...only '300' on HD DVD for the 360 has PinP extras and an interactive game, whilst the BD for the PS3 doesn't.

A pint for the first person to spot a BD fan arguing that it won't make any difference because PS3 fans don't want games.

I may well never watch the PinP, and almost certainly won't play the game, but it'd drive me mad to have a disc that won't do these, when I know there's a disc I could have bought that will.

What has the Blu rays lack of features got to do with the PS3? Its exactly the same for every Blu ray player. The PS3 isnt the only Blu ray player on the market. Dont bring this thread into a X360/PS3 slagging match.

You miss the point. I couldn't care less about games consoles.

The point is that BD has a disc sales lead because of a games console, and we have a release here which has a game on the HD DVD but not on the PS3-friendly format.

If PS3 owners become disillusioned with BD films because of this, it'll impact on the format wars.

yes it did mate, but, i just thought that it should be a much cleaner image seeing as though its 90% CGI and 1080p

after watching the 720p trailer here it still has a hint of grain but doesnt look as grainy as the PS3 trailer

I think youll find that 300 is meant to have a bit of grain for artistic purposes.

Whilst i'm sure there will be some people who are miffed at not getting the interactive game with the Blu-Ray disc, I'd be very surprised if there were a revolt by a 'disillusioned' PS3 gaming community over it.

I could be wrong, but i'd guess that this interactive freebie will be nothing more than a light-hearted diversion with a lifespan of 5 minutes. Presumably most people who shelled out in excess of $700/£400 to play games on the PS3, did so to play the latest ground-breaking next-gen titles!? (Awaits witty retort about the lack of ground breaking next-gen PS3 titles ). Now unless this game fits that description and is uttterly astounding, i suspect the majority of PS3 owners interested in the film '300' won't lose any sleep over it and will pick up the Blu-Ray disc without giving it a second thought.

But who knows, maybe this will be the catalyst for a mass exodus to the paradisal green pastures of HD-DVD land?!

I guess we'll find out on July 31st!

All my friends with only Blu Ray players dont care at all that the HD DVD has more features. They are just glad to have the film in HD. They get more annoyed when titles are delayed like the Matrix trillogy just so they can add features they dont really want anyway. I strongly doubt that PS3 owners will revolt and pack up thier PS3's just because some films dont have the same features as the HD DVD.

not another high def release with grain !
I've had enough of that on spartacus,
(along with the orange faces that make it not worth watching)

guess I'll wait for the reviews on this one instead of rushing to pre order as soon as I can,
like I usually do.

The two 720p trailers available on Xbox Live Marketplace (US, not sure if it's on UK, haven't checked) also exhibit a reasonable amount of grain.

Of course there will be no mass revolt.

It's also possible that this won't impact on sales at all - I think many PS3 owners who buy the odd BD really don't know or even care about what's on the disc, other than the film.

However, I do think that there are are fair number of PS3-owning BD-buying types who, like me, have their PS3 purely (or almost purely) as a film player, and who have an A2 or E1 (it's the cheapest way into both formats).

I'm sure most of us will opt for the HD DVD version.

Of course, this may well not show up in the sales figures. It might simply be that the film appeals to a lot of the PS3 demographic. I think any impact will be relatively small, and longer-term. I don't expect to see mountains of PS3s in skips on the 1st of August, and long queues for HD DVD players.

We shall see, it'll certainly be an interesting one.

movietyme have both versions up for pre-order now

http://www.movietyme.com/catalog/adv...categories_id=

not ordering yet though .. its been a while since i got a MT voucher
Yup me too. I guess when you order pretty much everything as soon as it's announced there's little incentive for them to give you discount vouchers.

Despite hating the combo format I'll be buying the HD-DVD version over the Blu-Ray version, even if the UK gets a day and date release (my PS3 is a UK player).

Re: 300 in HD!

I wonder if the UK release on HD DVD would be a combo- as we seem to get far less of them than the US.

The only UK combo I know is Smoking Aces. Its packaging has combo all over it but the disk is single sided. They couldnt even get that right.

I actually Universal about that- thye said they were re issuing all the discs in the UK. I asked if they could not just re issue the box and sell two versions rather than waste all those discs.

I will wait to see how long the UK has to wait for this and f it will be combo- if not BD for me as the extras dont bother me to much
