Where's the point in buying the UK one when all the most colourful bits are given to us in black and white!

Any news on when the proper Japanese cut of this will be out on BD?

Re: Kill Bill Vol.1 comes to UK Blu-ray this July

The combined cut ('Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Mess') has finally had an SD DVD release announced for later in the year.

I think it's difficult to see how they wouldn't also put this out in high def.

Currently, this long cut is owned by Weinstein, who are HD DVD-only. But who knows where we'll be by the time its released.

Personally, as I have KB1 & 2 on SD, if I double dip I want to see if the long/combined version comes out on HD, and I'll get that. if it doesn't come out on high def I'll buy the 2 seperate films.

Re: Kill Bill Vol.1 comes to UK Blu-ray this July

Oh, it's excellent. Here's a summary from Wikipedia on the differences:

Differences in Japanese cut
While the American cut of the movie shows the violent battle at the House of Blue Leaves in black-and-white, the Japanese cut shows it in color. In addition, the Japanese cut includes a few extra bits of violence distributed throughout the film, most notably during the anime sequence and the showdown at the House of Blue Leaves. Furthermore, the Japanese cut shows the Bride cutting off both of Sophie's arms during her interrogation. This creates a continuity error, as Sophie still appears to have one arm as she rolls down the hill toward the Hospital in a later scene. These cuts were made to the U.S. version in order to avoid an NC-17 rating.

Amazon Japan have it here on DVD for the bargain price of £6.22!

I see Play.com have removed the Sept 3rd release date for both Kill Bills and now have them listed as 'Due For Release...'

Still showing 3rd of September at Amazon UK, as is 'Pulp Fiction'.

Can't find 'Pulp Fiction' on BD at all at Play.

Re: Kill Bill Vol.1 comes to UK Blu-ray this July

Possibly a silly question, but did they remove the censorship from the UK version of Pulp Fiction?

IIRC, the BBFC did eventually lose its fear of needles, but my memory is a bit hazy. I know Trainspotting was eventually released sans cuts, but I can't remember if the same thing happened for Pulp Fiction.

Cheers.

Re: Kill Bill Vol.1 comes to UK Blu-ray this July

According to the BBFC website the film was first sent for cerification for video, and received classification on the 19th of April 1995. The running time of the submission was 147 minutes 59 seconds, and 3 seconds had to be cut:

http://www.bbfc.co.uk/website/Classi...a?OpenDocument

The video was resubmitted and re-classified on the 15th of August 1995. The submitted film was again 147 minutes 59 seconds, and was this time passed uncut:

http://www.bbfc.co.uk/website/Classi...5?OpenDocument

From that it looks like it's been uncut since August '95.

Having said that, DVD Compare has all Uk editions down as being cut, though occasionally they get a bit lazy:

http://www.dvdcompare.net/comparisons/film.php?fid=366

I'll make further enquiries.

Re: Kill Bill Vol.1 comes to UK Blu-ray this July

I seem to vaguely remember something about the UK version of Pulp Fiction having a shot re-freamed rather than cut, the one where you see JT putting the needle in his arm so that in the UK cut uou don't actually see it go into the arm, I could be completely imagining this off course

You are indeed correct. This is the only difference from the US version.
