Your first point i agree with totally, your second poiint is still correct but i believe your insinuating that the ps3 is not value for money. You could make a console worth £1000 and it could be great value for money. £425 IS great value for money for the PS3. Ive had mine since november and use linux as my media player etc, and blu ray for movies and ps3 for games. With the new PS HOME announcement tonight its even more value for money. My 360 is not on one tenth of the time as my ps3 and thats without many games out

I am at a COMPLETE loss on how you read in a comment about PS3 into my text that was deliberately written to be both format neutral and free of any manufacturer bias.

Ah, it's just the knock-on effect of PS3 owners/owners to be paranoia. Check out the PS3 forum and you'll see the root of that paranoia... It's crawling with 360 fanboys putting the PS3 down

On topic, I'm very tempted to put a few orders in of some of these titles. Any recommendations of region free titles?

I think you're jumping to a huge conclusion there. Just do a search under Nic's name to find out how wrong you are

For me, the 360 is for games (PS3 offers nothing my X-Box doesn't or can't do), but the kicker for me is BluRay....frankly, for me the PS3 is worth the asking price purely for the BR player. The fact that it does more is just an added bonus

Re: AMAZON.COM 50% off Blue Ray leads to HUGE sales surge

Things like this could do wonders for both HD formats trying to compete with each other as well as other studios dropping prices if only for slightly older titles.

The machines indeed are region coded. Region coded for BD, Region A covers US and Japan, Region B is Europe.

Some of the UK BD discs are region free though

Indeed. I've bought 11 disks, 10 of which I would have not done if it wasn't for this offer. All I need now is something to play them with.

BTW stock levels have gone down 4500 since the offer started

That mirrors my purchases from this offer. 9 from amazon and 2 from MT. I would probably only bought 1 or 2 if they hadn't been a 'good price'.

Re: AMAZON.COM 50% off Blue Ray leads to HUGE sales surge

How do you go about ordering at Amazon.com?

They charge $6 shipping on top of the disc cost. Do I have to keep ordering discs individually and keep paying the $6 shipping fee to avoid custom charges?

Sorry if i am a bit thick but I have never ordered from the states.

Well if you want to avoid potential import tax then yes you do, currently you would need to keep the toal order cost to under $35 to be sure to avoid tax.

The actual shipping charge for one disc is $6.98 and for two is $9.47, so by ordering two you do get quite a saving.

If there are films from Fox and Sony that you want you should safely be able to order one from each company and still be just under the dreaded £18 customs limit. If you also get the 10% HD discount from Amazon then this method definitely works as I happily used it for quite a few titles. If you're just ordering Sony or Magnolia titles then you can also get two together, without any worries.

Re: AMAZON.COM 50% off Blue Ray leads to HUGE sales surge

I ordered two BR films from Amazon.com. Black Hawk Down and Kingdom of Heaven. After ordering I realised that KofH is region A and so won't play on my ordered PS3 UK. As I couldn't cancel the order with Amazon I emailed them, explaining my mistake and asking if I could return it once it had arrived and exchange it for another film. Their reply.....don't worry, it's too expensive to return, keep the films and we'll credit your card with the FULL amount. How about that for customer service? 10 out of 10 for Amazon.com

Amazon were running a promotion since the HD formats were released that if you ordered 3 titles in one order you would get a 10% discount off all subsequent orders for the next year. Pretty certain the enrolment period has finished (around Christmas time), but for those that have it it lasts till the end of this year.
