I watche aeon flux and that totally blew me away! It was ACE! I have heard the hulk was one of the best but ordered it and thought it was a bit grainy?
I also watched goblet of fire and thought it was good but now "WOW".
I like this review site myself.
Also I have heard Riddick is supposed to be ACE but I don't like the directors cut and I already have it twice in my DVD collection (DC and normal) So I don't think I will be adding it soon.

Re: HD DVD recommendations

well its not visually stunning but i enjoyed kiss kiss bang bang, funny with good extras and it does look good.
Goodfellas looks great, and well worth getting if like me you had one of the old flip disc versions.
Really ive just been buying films i liked or want too see, had a brief look at training day earlier and quality looks ace, is a good film too. Just go to amazon/play or who ever and flick through their selection.
If you want stuff thats not out here yet (ie us stuff) is used movietyme for the first time recently, they say on the site it could take upto 2 weeks but i got my 3 films in 3 days.

Re: HD DVD recommendations

Serenity is probably the most impressive out of the ones i've got.

Anybody know any good 1:85:1 HD DVD films? all mine so far are 2:35:1 and letterboxed to mantain the aspect ratio.

Re: HD DVD recommendations

Just watched Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and must agree a very good film (you need to concentrate a little though).

I think KK looks almost too good the CGI is really obvious, although it was pretty obvious on the standard DVD also, the TREX fight with Naomi is an example of this.

Not always the best movies but certainly agree with the majority on pq. It'll save you from wasting money on the stinkers out there.

Re: HD DVD recommendations

Or if you want to try before you buy why not rent tham first?

I used the code: tsww9876 signing up to Tesco DVD (they use Love Film) rental for a free 3 month trial and have currently got about 20 odd HD-DVDs on my rental list. They've even go the PAL DVE caliberation disc too.

Go through Quidco for an extra £4 back too...

Re: HD DVD recommendations

I am waiting for The Fugitive & Batman Begins to arrive (7 days and counting so far from Florida) amongst others - refuse to buy KK because I thought it was a truelly boring film (even though the detail on screenshots I have seen look very good) - will buy SeaBiscuit when its available (or once these discs finally arrive) due to highly impressive pq which is evident.

I imported "Casino" on HD DVD and I thought it was good, not sure it's worth it though if you've already got the DVD.

Re: HD DVD recommendations

The movies I've bought have nearly all been imports. This option is now easier than going into town and buying from your local HMV as well as being much cheaper ( how is that?)
So far I have about 20 titles and they can be rated on 2 levels: The quality of the movie and the quality of the image. Only a few have both!!
Those few are:

Fearless
Batman Begins
Swordfish
Apollo 13
Serenity

Then we have those which are reasonable movies but nothing special on the image front:

Mission Impossible 1
Mission Impossible 3
Doom
Harry Potter & The Goblet of Fire
The Grinch
Fast and the Furious

Then there are those which have great images but the movie stinks!!:

Ant Bully ( a bit like A Bug's Life but not as good...The kids may like it though)
King Kong
The Polar Express
Superman Returns

Lastly there are those which just stink full stop!

Mission Impossible 2
Terminator 3

The Departed - Great film, great transfer.

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang - Agree with the posters on here, great little film which looks excellent in HD. Quite a few laugh out loud moments

Waiting for Lucky # Slevin to arrive. Anybody got this? Any good?

I heard that Apollo 13 had a bad transfer and this was the main reason I haven't bought it. Is the PQ actually really good?

Just got HD Drive for Xbox 360 and playing it through 32” Samsung HDTV.
Thought I would get Apollo 13 to try it out, Not impressed at all think the picture quality poor and wouldn’t have noticed it was HD unless I was told.

Re: HD DVD recommendations

My top HD DVDs are (in no order):

Serenity
Batman Begins
Swordfish
V for Vendetta

I liked the above as the picture, sound and film were all good. If you just want a good picture and are not too fussed about the film/story itself I would also check out King Kong.
