Re: finding nemo hd-dvd

Disney is currently Blu-Ray exclusive. I wouldn’t expect to see Finding Nemo on either Blu-Ray or HD-DVD this year. Cars is coming to Blu-Ray in the Summer.

If only Blu Ray was just a Sony product. Also how has Sony got anything to do with what Disney releases?

perhaps the BDA, that was one of its purposes, to spread the royalties out over all main members, and not just for 1 or 2 companies getting the lions share.
Now do you see why joining the BDA was attractive, or a lure if you prefer.

really i would say its panasonics technology, as they have done alot for BR.

or why not TDK for some of the BD disc break thru's......

regardless, No disney titles as of yet, future= unknown

Re: finding nemo hd-dvd

yeah right. the only company that is gonna make money is sony. the other ce manufacturers must be ready to kill sony because they have sabotaged the stand alone players. Sony makes money from their games. The ce's make their from the electronics. If they dont sell they dont make money.

Fact is BD is less a Sony product than the CD and even the DVD.
Panasonic, Pioneer and TDK get most of the royalties. And then come Sony and Philips.

And standalone HD-DVD players are hardly profitable for the CE companies.

Apple are going Blu-Ray.

Apple boss Steve Jobs owns Pixar.

Pixar makes the best Disney films like Nemo, Monsters Inc & Cars.

Steve Jobs is on the board at Disney.

Disney go Blu-Ray.

I think you'll find Disney have been aligned with Blu-Ray for quite some time.

Re: finding nemo hd-dvd

the latest version of the leading burning software for OSX Toast (v 8) is enabled to burn Blu-Ray. Dont know if this is merely because HD burners werent ready?

I dont think the presence of Jobs as Disney's biggest shareholder will make much of a difference. IIRC Disney liked the copy protection for Blu-Ray.

Pixar is a wholly owned subsidiary of Disney and is not owned by Apple. Both companies support Bluray.

Re: finding nemo hd-dvd

Jobs was head of Pixar originally and Disney recently purchased Pixar making Jobs the single biggest private shareholder in Disney, along with becoming a board member.

Thats why Pixar stuff was the first on iTunes.

Re: finding nemo hd-dvd

Apple did join the Blu-ray Disc Association in March 2005, however, have always continued to back HD DVD and participate in DVD Forum.

Apple are sitting on the fence. e.g. Final Cut Studio, their HD video production professional software suite used by many in television and movie industries, supports both formats in the latest version. Their new 10.5 version of OS X (code named "Leopard") supports both HD DVD and Blu-ray optical disc and folders structures on hard drives in the built-in DVD player software. I've heard that even the '07 edition of iLife suite is going to support both formats.

We've yet to see what hardware they are going to put in Macs, but I wouldn't be suprised to see dual-format drives.

Steve Jobs wasn't just "head of Pixar", he owned the company. Hence he could sell it to Disney, which he did on 24 January 2006 for $7.4bn in an all-stock transaction. This gained him approximately 6% of the company, and made him by far the largest shareholder, he is one of the most influencial board members (second only to Bob Iger, Disney's CEO). He's never publically backed one or 'tother format.

I wonder if you would actually notice the difference between the SD and HD version of finding nemo.

Re: finding nemo hd-dvd

Thought they announced Finding Nemo for this year also (just no date), before they announced Cars. It was included on Highdefdigest on the BD release list. Have they swapped it for Cars then?

No, they had a preview at the beginning of their early Blu Ray releases saying things like Aladdin, Beauty & The Beast, The Lion King, Finding Nemo and some other titles were coming to Blu Ray in the future. I don't believe Cars was on that list, and was announced at CES to be coming this Summer. Looks like its going to be available on 05/06/2007.
