Hopefully Cheers will be another series where the UK discs are better than the R1 discs. |
I hope so, I'm going to wait until they are about £10 each, I did the same for season 1 - 7 and they all dropped in price eventually, Lol.
If I remember right the problems with the music being edited did not occur on the DVD sets until the last few box sets.
Here are a few comments that customers have made about season 10 DVD's.

I know it's a small thing, especially when Cheers uses so little pop music in the series. But for this reason, you'd think that Paramount could secure rights to the original music used in the episodes.
Here we go: Episode: "Get Your Kicks On Route 666: Song "The Wanderer" by Dion, heard in the exterior shot of Cliff's car as the guys cruise down the highway -- gone -- along with the exterior shot. Hasty edit here.
Episode: "Bar Wars V: The Final Judgement" Song "Monster Mash" By Bobby Boris Pickett" is replaced by generic Halloween music. VERY WEAK! That's just the first disc!
ENOUGH ALREADY! The Fugitive fiasco should have been a wakeup call for the DVD division execs at Paramount. In addition to the greed demonstrated by partial season sets (on other series), this studio is going overboard with this music replacement thing. Fans do notice, and Paramount is trashing it's TV library! This rather irritating fact aside. The video quality, sound and picture are top notch, and would deserve five stars.. if it weren't for the music thing.

Season 9:- Quote:

I've been looking forward to the release of season 9 since the last was released, and I have to admit that I am a bit disappointed for a few reasons. First off is the changing of music in the shows. On the first disc there is an episode where Sam taunts Rebecca with the use of the song "I fought the law and the law won." This song has been completely replaced with another song that I do not recognize. The joke is completely killed, ruining the best moments of this particular episode, and Sam comes off as looking ridiculous in the process.

The series finale is missing certain scenes as well as Rebecca Gaines, Rebecca Loses (which is missing about a minute). The finale was missing about a minute of Alan and Paul commenting on The Ninja Turtles and LL Cool J, as well as Rebecca getting a goodbye kiss from Sam near the end.

(approx. 1/3 of the prints have been brutally edited for music content or time by the astonishingly cheap and lazy penny-pinching parasites at CBS Home Entertainment/CBS Paramount) clocking in at 23:27, the standard original run-time of a Cheers episode from this season, a 30 second reduction from the 24 minute episode common to most of the series' installments prior to this point.

Just a few comments I have seen above.
It sounds like what they did with the Friends DVD's, the latest Friends boxset features the longer cut of the episodes, where as earlier boxsets had the shorter cuts of the episodes.
