Not an authority on Australian films and can't think of others off the top of my head to recommend. Just thought "Animal Kingdom" was a superb film and that "Snowstorm", while very hard to watch and very disturbing was unique and extraordinary, if challenging. Liked "Jindabyne" but didn't think it was outstanding as the two above.

I didn't think much of Snowtown (Snowstorm ?) Reading up on the real case is a lot more interesting than the film, which missed a trick in making the complicated relationships between the characters clear. Animal Kingdom is great though.

Had to watch alone, OH was definitely not keen on it. Interesting movie, more story and "meat" to it than most of its contemporaries.

X-Men First Class

Surprised it had taken me so long to get round to watching this as I am a huge fan of the X-Men series. I thought this was a very good film and mostly created the threads well that the previous films used. Excluding a few relationships created that would seem odd when watching back the first 3 films.

Quatermass and the pit this evening. Tremendous film - one of Hammer's very best. Wonderful job restoring this for BD as well.
There's something really satisfying about these older films on BD when they are presented so well.

Game of Thrones Season One for me today. Started it last night and ended up wasting the whole of today finishing it. Very addictive. Great production values, acting and direction. Blu-ray looks stunning. All-in-all very impressive with great picture quality. Shame so many of the extra's are in SD though.

Take Shelter rounded the day off. The synopsis goes something like "guy starts hallucinating a coming tornado, seeks mental health help but builds a shelter for his wife and family". Takes 2 hours to actually tell this "story". Sloooooooooooooooow doesn't even begin to describe it, and it's repetitive as hell. Good reviews and a fairly high score on imdb but I'd say it's definitely a rental rather than a purchase. Atmospheric I guess but the words "arty-farty" and "pretentious" just kept coming to mind. Can't imagine ever wanting to sit through this one again.

I just could not like or contect with any of the characters,they seem so vain and shallow.

Worth a watch just

The director hates people of their "class" so he wouldn't portray them as anything other than that.

I thought all the characters were eminently watchable. Although they were upper-middle class, he showed them to be every bit as vulnerable and ****ed up as anybody else.

AC/DC - Let there be rock. Really good performance from the Bon Scott era acca-daccas. Much more intimate than the arena shows they do now and the energy seems concentrated as a result.
This was never going to be a great BD picture-wise but it is as good as one might expect. Sound is wonderful, though and that's the key thing here.

Believe it or not, I've never seen 24!! But sutherlands character was one of my favourites in Melancholia. I liked his simmering resentment towards justine and her family, and also his sense of wonder during the second half. His cool, calm persona makes what happens to him later on all the more upsetting.

Had this on my planner for ages, I'm off work for the week so trying to knock a few off my huge unwatched pile. I was swayed having just watched episode 2 of Dexter season 6 and I'm a big fan of Michael C. Hall who's in this. along with Gerard Butler. This film is watchable, while i understood the plot and thought it was OK but a little trippy, there just seemed to much going on and a bit messed up. Pleased i didnt buy it. Picture quality was excellent.

Watched The Town (Director's Cut/Extended cut) last night. Can't remember the entire film scene for scene from when I originally saw it upon its cinema release, but think I managed to identify a few of the extra scenes... an easy one to identify was one in which the leading man is asked about his family and he gives a detailed recounting of a memory from his childhood from when his Mother 'left' the family... only to be asked again a few scenes later about his family and whether his Mum/Dad still live in Charlestown... rather strange to say the least!!!

Pretty good film for those liking a bit of action and *some* storyline. The Audio was good, if a little difficult to follow at times (think it was more the accent rather than the transfer though!) and the picture was very sharp with little noise evident.

Didn't realise the extended cut made it draw out to just over 2.5 hours though rather than the 125 minutes quoted on the back of the BD!

Hopefully might get to break out Leon tonight and see the Directors Cut of that which I picked up last week. Not seen that film in years!

Just watched The Adventures of Tin Tin: The Secret of the Unicorn, the picture quality is absolutely fantastic truly amazing loads of detail especially in the Baaghar scenes, this is the second time I have watched this film, the first time in 3D and now this time in 2D I much preferred it in 2D it just came over better I found the 3D just to distracting.Tin Tin seems to me to be almost a film of 2 halves the 1st half up to where they are in the desert does not gel as well as everything from the desert onwards,the second half just flows better and is just for me the better half of the film if only they could have got this to work this well all the way though, the film would have been fantastic.

Just finished 1st series of Being Humanwhich was a complete blind buy (not sure how I missed it to start with)

I found S1&2 BR boxset for £20 in an HMV sale recently, so thought it was worth a punt. Absolutely loving it so far, just the right mix of drama, quirky humour and achingly funny insight

Will probably start S2 tomorrow
