AVF Netflix Recommended

I thought it might be a nice idea to have a thread with AVForums content recommendations by users on here. I'm sure there are lots of little known gems on there waiting to be discovered.

Basically post the title of what you have watched,a short review and a rating out of 5.

Let's stick with things that you WOULD recommended rather than things that you wouldn't.

I'll kick things off...

THE KING OF KONG

Documentary looking at a battle between two retro gamers competing for the world record on Donkey Kong. Yup it's just as geeky as it sounds and will certainly involve plenty of cringing at some of the people and just how obsessed they have become with Donkey Kong consuming their lives.

Funny documentary though and filmed in a way to very much pit good against evil.

Score 4/5

Watched King of Kong before and can also recommend this. Awesome film.

I can recommend City of God for anyone that hasn't seen it. One of the best foreign films I've seen.

Currently watching Firefly a sci-Fi tv series from a few years back. Sadly only made one season but gained immense popularity after it was pulled then went on to be made into a Hollywood film called Serenity.

5 stars and Highly recommended if you enjoy sci-Fi.

Kung FU Dunk

For any fans of Shaolin Soccer this is a must see. Great in HD and some great wire antics.

LAST TRAIN HOME

Another documentary. This time following a family during Chinese New Year... having visited China last year I absolutely loved
this. Highlighting the contrast between rural and developing China this really is an excellent insight into a nation in transition.

The trains weren't much better when I caught them out there either!

5/5

It's slow but filmed very well so works.

I Missed this when it came out as it got poor word of mouth.

Good selection of French films on the US site imo. I quite enjoyed "Point Black" the other night.

"The Bridge", a documentary about those who jump from the "Golden Gate Bridge".

THE BRIDGE ::: The Movie

It is as popular a spot as Beachy Head.

Arrested Development Seasons 1-3 in HD, awesome US comedy show. Has both Jason Bateman and Michael Cera in along with other well known actors.

It's a must watch for me - 5/5

IMDb - Arrested Development (TV Series 2003–2006)

Supernatural (Netflix US).

It wasn't there before and a quick Google search indeed shows it only became available yesterday. The first 3 seasons are definitely worth a watch. There are some gem episodes in there. It can be serious/tense/horror one minute and comedic the next. Very good show if you like indie feeling shows.

Watched two semi sci-fi films with Gary Sinise neither of which I have seen before.

"Imposter" set in 2079 and "The Forgotten"

Both quite unusual...

"The Baby's Room"

A subtitled Spanish film about a young couple who have just moved into their new home. They are given a baby monitor and can hear strange things whilst listening to it at night.........

This was recommended to me by someone on the football365 forum and I loved it.

I will second this film, it's part of the Spanish TV Series 6 Films to Keep You Awake. Saw it when it was on BBC2 a few years back, very creepy.

I'm guessing it's on US Netflix rather than UK?

The Real Michael Jackson

This documentary biographic by David Gest is IMO the definitive one. Far better than the opportunistic patchwork job I expected.

I was up till midnight watching and had to pull myself away, very absorbing stuff. Only on US Netflix though I think.

The Ladies Man (1961) HD Jerry Lewis.

Picture quality good and a couple of funny moments.

What mainly impressed me is the set they made of the mansion where most of the story is set.

It is four floors high and twice as wide and reminds me of a dolls house permitting the camera to go though walls that are missing.
