And yes, an excellent soundtrack too - one of Goldsmith's finest.
I liked Five Easy Pieces but Chinatown is another thing altogether for me

Cant believe noone else has mentioned or noticed this already but theres a review up -

Chinatown Blu-ray

Pretty much what I hoped for. And Im not a slipcase fanatic but I do want a slipcase for this one....Im hoping the UK one has and Amazon are doing it on pre-order for £13.99 which is very reasonable I think.

One of my top 10 films of all time. Maybe even in the top 5 in fact.

Holy hell - Paramount have released a catalogue title that isn't crippled with DNR! Saints be praised!

Edit: Actually, some of those shots look very processed and 'digital'. Apparently Paramount used an older master, one which had been given a tune up by Lowry. I hope this isn't plagued by the frozen grain which afflicts so many of their past 'restorations'.

Paramount: Not giving a single **** about Blu-ray since 2008.

Don't think it's been mentioned on AVF so thought I'd point it out, The UK release of Chinatown released today is totally devoid of any extras compared to the tip-top US version. Why Paramount UK decided to do this I have no idea!

Sent 'em an E-Mail to ask, Not expecting a reply, Can't see why it would be a rights issue as they own it worldwide and the extras were on the UK DVD.

Poor show all round

...just finished watching the US release. It's a shame the UK disc has no extras because there is a fascinating documentary on the US version all about the history of water in So California and how the Los Angeles area gets it's water so it does not turn into a desert. This is actually the first time I have ever watched any extra on a bluray in my life! Also comes with a nice booklet and gorgeous slipcover. I'm not complaining about the picture quality but kind of expected it to look a little better.
(it's region-free by the way )

UK version is only £7.95 online but even so it's worth an extra few quid to get a few extras, Not a slip nut but that does look nice

The US version's double that price, but for the extras and the gorgeous slip it's worth it IMO.

I'm going to be a cheapskate on this. Need to keep my Blu-ray spending down and if at all, the extras only get watched once while the film gets watched over and over.

This movie is one of the greatest but the US disc's extra features are not exactly riveting stuff - you get an hour and a half documentary which is a very detailed look at the role of the aqueduct in the film, what its purpose is, why it's there, and how it works. After five minutes, I got the message about why it was important to the movie but if I really wanted to know I would have looked it up on wiki.

Just got my US edition and its well worth the money for me. Nice slipcase and all the extras that the uk one hasnt got. This is one of my top 10 films so the uk one wasnt good enough for me despite the great price. As a bonus, this must be one of the fastest loading blu's ive ever seen, literally a few seconds! :-)

Theres a commentary too. And other non-aqueduct docs

Really? I ordered mine from there (there's only 50p in it vs axel) and I do like the look of that slip, so I'll be plenty ****** if they 'accidentally' leave it off.

I don't see why the cheeky beggars should leave them off in the first place. I just sent them an email to make sure I gets mine.

Sometimes they just run out of copies with slipcovers mate. Now I always pre-order if a bluray is coming out with one that I really want, or make sure I go to the store on release day. If it's an older title I email Amz first to confirm it's still shipping with the slip.

I've never trusted MT after they sent me my US Ponyo (ordered a few weeks after release) only for it to arrive slip-less and then a few months later, I noticed they were the selling copies of the slip on its own!

Hmmm. MT have replied and said 'all the stock of Chinatown we received has the slipcase' but they didn't actually answer my question (did my copy ship with the slip?) directly. Double hmmm.

Nor me! But I love the fact that its there waiting for me to watch though! Ive had a quick look at the transfer and im going to make time to watch it properly with the extras straight after - no distractions allowed!

They've just tweeted: "Effective immediately any discs coming with slipcases will be now shipped in protective jiffy mailers", so it sounds as though they are taking customers' concerns seriously.
