Alien and Aliens looks amazing on bluray. HUGE improvment on the DVDs. On a (sort of) related note I picked up The Thing for €6.99 in HMV and watched first 5 minutes - WOW. Big improvement in audio and video too.

Makes them look almost new again doesn't it?

Must admit, I haven't bought The Thing yet- will have to pick that one up too.

Found it on Play.com for £6.99 aswell for people like me who don't live close to a large city with a HMV.
Play.com - Buy The Thing (Blu-ray) online at Play.com and read reviews. Free delivery to UK and Europe!

Got mine with the new slip for £5.19 from HMV online a few weeks back

Old one without slip will be an extra xmas present for my bro - he wont care

Im pretty sure the new slip will match the new prequel art very well when it comes out on blu soon. My brother managed to nab a wall size pvc? roll up poster (was displayed at cinema) for the prequel which fills up a whole wall and looks unbelievable. When I say wall-size I mean wall-size - its gigantic!

Just looked on wiki and it said that the new prequel is set with a different mythology, so does this mean no aliens, well the ones we know, I'm abit confused about this

That suck's, I don't mean the new film but that there is no actual prequel. I'm sure someone here mentioned a prequel next year or is this what they ment.

I thought it was fairly obvious by now that Prometheus is a prequel. There is not going to be another one.

Might be an idea to look at the end of the thread, rather than the start when not much was known about it.

I was wondering that as well. Most have been absolutely hilarious. The logo was there and present on my disc.

It's just a generic Fox intro used in the 70s so won't be upto the same quality as the rest of the film, they could have swapped it out with a new one like they did with the Star Wars films but leave it alone I say.

It's the old 20th Century Fox logo and you will see that on all films from that period. It looked scratchy and grainy then because it had been used for decades. The studio was proud of its history. I suppose they could substitute it for a more contemporary one, but for someone like me who first saw the film when it came out, that would be sacrilege. When I see the old logo, it takes me right back to when I first saw that film at the cinema.

I'm thinking of getting the ALIEN Anthology BluRay boxset online £14.99. What do you think I could get for the Region 1 DVD Quadrilogy Set now?

I know it should be mentioned in the bargain area but in case you never venture to it the Alien Boxset is down to £9.97

May I ask if any of these are cut?

I see that they are not on dvdcompare site, but a friend of mine bought it and said that the end of Alien 3 where we usually see the chest burster burst through her chest was not present?

Can anyone confirm this?

cheers

The Blu-ray contains both the theatrical and the longer assembly cut which is closer to Fincher's original vision of the film. The Chestburster scene at the end is only present in the theatrical version which i believe was insisted upon by Fox.

Some differences here

Alternate versions of Alien 3

Getting 'Aliens' on BR from Blockbuster and then would 'Alien' again BR. Don't like buying discs but rather like renting them, you soon run out space and once you viewd them, don't like to view it again. I love to see the pristine picture quality and if its a good trasfer, sounds it is by reading here, then it'll be a cracker. But some transers are poor and not noticbly bettern than DVDs.
