It's about time. And no digital correction is most most welcome.

never understood why this classics are taking so long in the first place

jurrasic park, jaws and hopefully schindlers list will be next. this is great news though a real classic in story and acting..shame about the shark though!

would like a sexed up version just as a curiosity, and the unaltered original cleaned up ala taxi driver..and maybe whilst we at it stevie baby changing his mind on commentaries, they should really go for it.

Hope it gets Roger Kastell's original artwork too, That awful DVD cover they released was horrible. One of the most iconic Posters ever, Made to look like a cheap imatation. Looks like The Shark Is Still Working Doc won't be part of the package either which is a shame.

I hope the original soundtrack is restored too so that we can hear the explosion at the end as it was originally

I believe it said in the article that the original mono track would be included.

Yes the mono soundtrack is unadjusted.
But it would be nice to have a surround track where the mix does not remove sound effects that were there originally.
The 5.1 track sounds completely different at the end as if new sounds replaced the original gunshots and the sound of the cylinder as it explodes is also lost.
I don't see why they can't do a 5.1 track that still has those sounds

There are so many things wrong about that 5.1 mix. For me it's the Whale Cry more than anything. I nearly turned off the movie because of that. I went back to my Signature Laser Disc version until the 30th Ann version arrived.

Like you say, a 5.1 mix using only the original effects would be interesting but for me I think the Mono track with the amp set to 2 Chanel is the way I will always watch the movie.

Could be wrong but I thought Jurassic Park is getting a huge release soon?

" So, eleven hundred men went in the water, three hundred and sixteen men come out, the sharks took the rest, June the 29, 1945. Anyway, we delivered the bomb."

This is a landmark BD title for me. Time to start wishing 2011 away to get to this release.

Can't see that happening though.

Me too. Im a bit worried that shark is going to look even more fake in HD! It was quite obvious on the DVD SE so Im sure it will be even more obvious...

Im sure it could be made to look much more realistic without looking out of place - obviously as an alternative option.

Leaving aside the rights and wrongs for a second, the number of shots you might argue SS could change would only amount to a total of a couple of minutes at the most.

It's always an odd assertion that HD suddenly will reveal and exagerate all these flaws never seen before. Initially the film was shown at the cinema on huge screens and it's not like we are going to discover anything new. The flaws of the animatronic shark are not minute details. The clearly visible hinged jaw of the thing was just as obvious on VHS.

I don't care that the shark looks a bit creaky. Spielberg did the right thing by keeping it off screen for much of the time and there is so much more to the film than a shark.

I'd sooner he left jaws alone and remade mission of the shark, including the Quint character.

Confirmed for August 14th 2012 in the USA

Jaws Blu-ray

Universal has not yet released the technical or supplementary specifications for this Blu-ray. However, the studio has suggested that one or more of the film's sequels may also get a Blu-ray upgrade on the same day Jaws streets.

My Favourite film, surely a July 4th release would of been more appropriate, and what about Jaws2?

It does state that one or more of the sequels may be released on the same day.

I've always hoped Spielberg would turn Quint's USS Indianapolis story into a film. Yes I'm aware of mission of the shark.
