dvdworldusa/dvdexpress247

got an e-mail today from

DVDExpress247.com » Home

after a bit of digging seems to be an offshoot of dvdworldusa.

Perhaps their same day dispatch service?

Haven't ordered yet but might do!

On closer inspection it would appear not.

About Delivery

Is there a delivery charge? No, the price you see includes the delivery charge for each item.

I can see myself using them a lot.

On closer closer inspection it seems all orders are shipped from the US so most of the stuff priced at £19.99 will be stung by customs.

Looking through the FAQs and delivery is between 7-21 days. Think i will stick to the express option on their parent site.

Just sent an email about customs and had a reply already.

Dear Richard,

Thank you for contacting us.

As far as shipments to the UK, you won't have any customs charges, guaranteed.

That's a good question and probably something that we should add to the website.

Regards,

Damon

If it's DVD world USA then avoid them like the plague.

I bought a Pioneer Region A player from them earlier in the year - because they state that VAT is paid.

They are lying - it's not.

You get stung with the customs charge. They tried to say that this was an additional charge - and offered me 50% as a store credit.

I got a copy of the waybill from the courier which proved they didn't pay a penny in VAT and Duty.

I complained, and threatened to charge back, they told me that Amex wouldn't be interested in my complaint.

Turns out Amex were interested, and I got my money back.

Only then did they back down.

Oh and the person who e-mailed me was called Damon Jones.

He's lying - and you could get stuck with the customs bill.

Avoid.

The email I got said they were UK based . I did not go into detail with it but if the stuff is still coming from the US and takes 21 days whats the point.

They will be as equally slow as Movietyme

You may have got lucky getting a product through customs without charges - but the fact is that they blatantly lied about paying the VAT when they hadn't.

It wasn't until I proved to them that they had lied that they backed down.

Do you really want to do business with a company who lies to you ?

Just got this from DVDWorldUSA website regarding their shipping policy.

UK Customers only: When purchasing movies, boxsets, games, etc., you will not be charged any VAT - we guarantee it.
When importing larger items (HD-DVD/Blu-ray/DVD players, X-Box 360, PS3 consoles, etc.), the carrier may apply a small extra VAT and handling charge. This amount is due by the buyer, but as a courtesy, we will give a store credit to the value of 50% of the handling charge (subject to an e-mail or posted copy of the receipt). This extra charge does not always apply, it is up to the shipping company.

All goods are dispatched from our warehouse in Florida by airmail.

So looks like their open about larger goods bearing a potential cost.

I've never used them before, but they had Star Trek cheaper then Movietyme so gave them a try (also they had an offer of three BD's ordered qualify for free Express shipping, so will see if it works).

I've used DVD World USA in the past and had nothing but good and curtious service from them, so I'm happy to use DVD Express 247, especially as the prices are competitive. The stuff is sent from the USA, so delivery won't be lightning-fast, but unlike many I'm a patient sort.

And just looking at DVD World's site, there is an ad at the top linking to the new site.

DVD World are officially the worst supplier I have ever had the misfortune to deal with.

- They lie about stock to gain orders, regularing declaring they have items in stock when they don't. Interestingly they apparently had Watchmen Ultimate Edition in stock in late October when it had been delayed until 10 November.

- They took money for special delivery from me, sent the item by first class post and only refunded the extra paid for postage when the item was lost and I repeatedly asked for the tracking number. They had to eventually admit they had not sent the item as requested. If I had not been persistent they would have kept the money. This is fraud.

- The owner Tony Denson has a habit of putting the phone down on you when you try and query why you are not getting the service you paid for.

- The alternative of emailing is a little better but again they will do all they can to ignore you if you have a problem, hoping you will go away, until you really force the issue.

Overall I really regret trying them, will never touch them again and would throughly recommend people avoid them.

That's good to hear DELUCAS. The payment showed up as DVD World USA on my card, so I was sure I'd be getting the same service.

In reply to the complaints about DVD World USA -- before I first used them earlier this year, I read horror stories, but as I said, I've never had any problems even when I had to return something. They have a ticket system that works really well and all my questions were answered in good time and curteously.

As for claiming to have stock in that isn't even out yet, stock is delivered very early in the US, sometimes up to two weeks in advance of the street date, so it's entirely possible -- for example, I got my copy of Gimme Shelter from Movietyme this week and it's not out until next week and it was shipped about 10 days earlier.

Well I've ordered from DVDWorldUSA for the first time as they were cheaper then Movietyme and had an offer of free shipping when ordering 3 titles.
However I've just checked the payment taken and they've charged me for shipping on each disc.
Have sent them a message asking for the charges to be refunded, just have to wait now and see what their after sales service is like, but not a great first impression.

Well aware of that mate but I can tell you for a fact Watchmen Ultimate was delayed due to production issues and did not ship to retaillers until around the 3 November date it was due out. Yet DW USA apparently had it in stock before that date. However when the delay become known and they posted on their blog that the item was limited it went back to preorder on their website.

Also I called to confirm an item I wanted for my recent order was in stock and would ship immediately and was told it was. The order then sat doing nothing for a week and when I called again to query it was told they had not had it in yet.

From this I can only conclude that they lie about stock to try and get orders.

Bump

Just wondered what the general consensus on these guys was - seems pretty much 50/50 judging from this thread. Should I risk buying a blu-ray from them?

Has anyone actually placed any pre-orders with DVDExpress247, if so what are they like for shipping out pre-orders compared to DVDWorldUSA?

I've noticed that The Perfect Getaway is already in stock at DVDWorldUSA, so would DVDExpress have it too? There's £4 difference in price so I'd rather get it from DVDExpress, plus it's cheaper than Movietyme too.

Same question here. Notice they have Paranormal Activity in stock at DVD world USA and will therefore be dispatching asap. Is DVDexpress the same, or will you have to wait until 'streetdate' before dispatch?

Personally I've always had good service from them (DVDWUSA) in the past. Used them on and off for several years now.

Thought I'd ask them the question direct - response below:

Unfortunately, we don't ship "advanced" copies (ahead of the release date). This is because advanced copies cost more and it would only make sense to ship them via an express method which is also more expensive (otherwise why ship early if they are going to take a long time to arrive?). The idea is to offer customers the best of both worlds: advanced copies, express shipping etc. on DVDWorldUSA and street-date copies, free shipping and thus lower prices on DVDExpress 247.

Regards,

Damon Jones
