Erm, what review were you reading? That's quite positive and fair IMO. Early MPEG-2 release, that has a bit of dirt on it, but rather that than a DNR poo-fest.

Lowry would need to do something bordering on biblical proportions with their remaster, for me to even consider replacing the current disc.

Re: Is 'The Terminator' tranfer THAT bad?

Um, you did see the Bond remasters, right? T1 will never look pretty by conventional standards, but I fully expect Lowry to work their magic again.

Still, if the new BD doesn't have the original mono - or at the very least a more respectful 5.1 remix - then I'll be passing no matter how good it looks.

OP: I'd wait. There'll be new extra features and other tat like that, so it'll be worth waiting for.

Presented in 1.85:1 high definition 1080p, I must admit that I was not vastly impressed with the image found on this Blu-ray disc. Granted, the film is more than twenty years old, but this particular print used for the transfer was in less than ideal condition. There were severe and clearly discernible instances of scratches and speckles all over the place

it doesnt sound the best, i actually think that the screenshots look ok to be fair.

The Bond movies weren't made for £6.50.

Re: Is 'The Terminator' tranfer THAT bad?

There isn't much between the DVD and BD but the BD is still better. Quality is a bit better and it does have better more natural colours. I am still waiting to see if a better version comes out though.

Re: Is 'The Terminator' tranfer THAT bad?

I ordered The Terminator yesterday. I made my decision based on the Highdefdigest review (even if it is quite a old review).

So that's gonna be 3 BD releases for T2? Is this the most re-issued film? I was about to order Terminator but think I'll hold fire if there's another release to come.

I've got Terminator Blu-Ray & I'm not sure if it could look any better in a future release. It was a low budget film & it shows.

You might have a point. I'll get the current release as it's cheap and wait and see what happens with the re-release.

I did direct comparisons with the Blu-ray and my Region 2 Special Ed. DVD and the Blu-ray won hands down. I sold my DVD.

I also did very in-depth comparison of the blu-ray soundtracks and found the English Dolby Digital EX track better than the PCM (uncompressed) 5.1 track.
Just my findings of course.

IMO The Terminator will look amazing once Lowry are done with it. Imagine it: actual fine detail, proper film grain, and possibly some cleaned-up opticals too.

[broken record]It's GOT to have the original mono audio mix though.[/broken record]

There isn't going to be a new T2.

The current US T1 blu ray is still better than the DVD and it has better more natural colours.

I thought Cameron was going back to this after he'd wrapped Avatar?

I would be surprised if he did. What about The Abyss? That doesn't even have a anamorphic DVD !

I'm sure the $$ will make him redo all his films in 3-D. It's just a matter of time.

Saying that, The Abyss would make a great 3-D film would it not?

Giant Tsunami coming towards the screen etc etc.

The Abyss is apparently being released in Russia on March 25th.

According to AVS. Large pinch of salt required.

Lovefilm does the same. They list non existent discs to make their Blu Ray list bigger.
