US Import

I'm new to Blu-ray, so please excuse:

I'm currently setting up a Home Cinema room with Panny BD60 player.

As a demo, I'd like to use the NASA production "Space Station", which I saw at the Imax in Washington DC.

This does not seem to be available in the UK, other than as a US import.

Being a TG, I don't want to spend out, only to find it's unplayable.

Given that it's an "educational" film, will it be Region free, and hence playable on my UK player?

Many thanks.

Re: US Import

Does anyone actually have this Blu-ray disk, please?

Some sites say it's only for the American/Canadian market.

Others say it's Region free.

Not sure if they're getting it mixed up with the DVD.

Many thanks.

this is apparently the same American import which they warn is Region 1.

So, I'm

Re: US Import

i wouldn't rely on amazon for what region discs are! they generally mark everything from the US as region 1. and anyway, its region A for america, region 1 is for DVD so if they cant get that right i wouldnt trust them!!

Blu-ray.com - Blu-ray Movies, Players, Recorders, DVDs, Media and Software is very reliable for the region coding of discs.

and DVDWorldUSA have it marked as multi region as well so you're guaranteed it'll work DVDWorldUSA.com :: IMAX: Space Station / Mission To Mir / Blu-ray (Multi-Region)

Re: US Import

Thanks to all who've advised me.

Looks like it's worth risking then, (even for a TG !).

Question

Friends,

I ordered 2 movies from amazon.com worth $23.
The shipping cost worked out to $9.
Order total: $32 (19.45 GBP)

What are the chances of the package getting hit by customs?

None. For customs purposes the goods value must not exceed £18.00; shipping cost is irrelevant. Your goods come to approximately £14.00; you are well under the threshold.

That's good to know, I ordered Way Of the Gun and Drag Me To Hell from Amazon this morning. Total cost was £20.96, but a fiver of that was for shipping. Phew!

Think I am going to get stung by customs.

Just realized that Amazon never prints the discounted price on the package. They print the full price without the promotional discount alongside shipping costs.

Looks like I am going to end up paying 4 pounds to RM / customs.

Quote:
Duty is payable on orders over £18 not including P&P, but duty is charged on the P&P if applicable eg. £17.99 + £5 P&P = no duty, £18.01 + £5 P&P = duty on £23.01.

The royal mail charge is now £8.00

Really annoys the hell out of me too.

I asked amazon to cancel my order but they denied as the order has entered shipping stage though the estimated shipping date still shows as 30th Nov, 2009. The strange part is the order entered into shipping stage within few hours of placing it.

If I am asked to pay extra, I am going to request amazon for a refund as they should have printed the price the customer actually paid.

Update:

Found this: 1 GBP = 1.6761 USD for 12-2009

Item(s) Subtotal: $29.99 (17.95)
Shipping & Handling: $8.97
Lightning Deal: -$7.00

Looks like I won't be charged anything extra (hopefully) provided the packaging states this properly.
