star wars on blu-ray in the next few years?

2009 Comic Con: STAR WARS films Blu-ray speculation (in the works?) - DVDTOWN.com

just reading this interview with Steve Sansweet, the head of Fan Relations at Lucasfilm , its a couple of months old now but the signs look good.

'But in the next few years there will be an ultimate box set and certainly a Blu-ray set.'

Let's just hope they don't let Sansweet proof the transfers!

Re: star wars on blu-ray in the next few years?

I was hoping that the whole saga would be released on blu-ray for the 30th anniversary of The Empire Strikes Back next year but we probably would have heard something by now.
Maybe George Lucas is waiting for the proposed 3D versions before the films are released on HD.

Re: star wars on blu-ray in the next few years?

I used to want to see these in HD but I bet the prequels look really bad in HD. The green screen cgi was obvious in ROTS on SD Freeview, so I dread to think what the Blu Ray would be like.

I think Lucas will see that a good job will done on his films.

I think we can expect Dolby TrueHD 7.1 sound too.

I had no problems with the Sky HD broadcast. Lots of detail in the faces and the black levels were great.

But green screen stuff looks bad in HD as the extra resolution makes the foreground and background look far apart.

Re: star wars on blu-ray in the next few years?

Oh my God, imagine what the forums will be like when this finally gets a Blu-ray release - Gladiator will have nothing on the controversy about this! Beyond the video transfer and soundtrack there will inevitably be new content changes and...

I'm getting into my blast shelter well ahead of time!

Re: star wars on blu-ray in the next few years?

I don't think we'll ever see the unaltered versions on blu. Ok, so he eventually released 'em on dvd, but don't expect the same on hi-def.

Re: star wars on blu-ray in the next few years?

The rumour is that the poor performance of the 'original' versions on DVD scuttled any chance of a 30th anniversary boxset, DVD or otherwise. (That probably will be the last time we'll see the originals on home video, as Lucas will no doubt think he's been proved right that no-one wants the unaltered versions.)

We'll get the movies on Blu when LFL's good and ready. Lucas did talk about Star Wars and 3D a while back, so my money's on theatrical 3D re-releases for the 35th anniversary (2012) with super-duper boxsets to follow.

He counts his money. I understand that it's a full time job, and an endless task - a bit like painting the Forth Bridge.

Working on the Live Action Star Wars tv series, oversees Clone Wars, coming up with story ideas for Indiana Jones 5, in deep pre production on Red Tails. Pretty busy I'd say

I'm only interested in having the non-retconned OT on Blu-ray. Couldn't care less about the rest.
