I've finally 'gone blu'

After a new delivery or three, today I had a quick count up of my high def discs, to find that my shelves now contain 89 HD DVDs and 90 Blu-ray Discs. Now this isn't a firm total, as I have several discs of both colours strewn throughout the house, but thus is the first time the count has gone against red.

The great irony is that I ordered what will probably be my last HD DVD ever the other day (The Breakfast Club) along with a large pre-Christmas order which will increase the number of Blu-ray Discs by a significant amount.

Ah well, there you go.

Re: I've finally 'gone blu'

I am in the same boat as you Steve. I've even double-dipped and have both red and blu of the same flick . However, I have been tempted to offload some of my HD DVDs, at times even tempted to take a whole box into CEX...but then I get cold feet!

Mmmm...should I or shouldn't I sell my collection of reds???

Re: I've finally 'gone blu'

Well,I've finally got up to 200 HD DVDS and will now concentrate on blu ray to add to the 16 or so I have. But I'll only buy genuine favourites such as Rome ..the series which I've just ordered and of course Visconti's, The Leopard.Prices will have to drop a lot more to get me mass buying as with the HD DVDs.

Ive just flogged nearly that amount to Film Vault lol (50+ blu to 30 red) and I still have a collection of around 400 Blu's (reds have mostly been replaced now, down to about 10 I still want to keep /unavailable on blu)

Just find it amazing that avid film fans like yourself are still relatively hesitant in buying Blu

Hi,

I am curious to know what Film Vault are like. Did you sell mainly HD DVDs to them? What kind of return did you get? Is it relatively easy and hassle free etc?

Cheers

Re: I've finally 'gone blu'

I only have 35 HD DVD's and only got them because I wanted something to have before the format completely disappeared. I have well over 100 Blu now.

about 30 HD-DVD's , some where promo though with the deck I bought

First time Ive used them to be honest, submitted a txt file on their website today and should hear back from them tomorrow or Thursday with an offer (with the 50+ br's Im hoping for around £250 or so)

Will advise (if Im allowed to, dont see why it should break any rules but if anyone can advise ....) when I get the offer

Re: I've finally 'gone blu'

My most recent HD DVD was Stardust as it still didn't seem to be out on blu-ray. I got it last month from a private seller. Blu-ray wise I think I went blu when I got my second PS3 so I could play blu-rays in the bedroom. As I only have one E1 then I will go off that as it saves me counting up the disks.

I am thinking of ditching some VHS videos and a few DVDs that I have double dipped on.

Re: I've finally 'gone blu'

I would not be so quickly getting rid of the Reds guys, some Reds seem superior than the Blu counterparts of the same movie..
Some Reds are not even out on Blu yet..
I implore you all, not to get rid of them, or just send them to me care of BSHDdvdRecyclingcentre@fakeemailaddy.com.

I will find them good homes (not sell them for beer money ahem)..

£230 and change for 80 HD discs - not as good as I hoped I have to admit but not to be sneezed at either (I dont have a breakdown so amount is pretty meaningless - but I must have spent a £1k on the BR's even if the reds are nigh on worthless now

At less than £3 per disc (red) and £5 for Blu, surely someone on here would have snapped those up?

hastle of sending to alot of different people, cost of postage and not to mention the liklihood of lack of interest in some if not majority of the discs (and waiting for alot of different payments to come through), what little extra I gained would have been spent in time and effort

Im the first to admit its not a great deal - but it would have taken an age to sell seperately

Re: I've finally 'gone blu'

Thanks Hugo,

I really appreciate that you let me know about the Film Vault service. I think I am going to send in a list of my reds and see what they say. The ones I really like can be had in the blu flavour anyway, so I am not really that adverse to selling them on. I'll wait and see what their valuation is like though. Thanks again!

Even here friend, you won't find people lining up to take Ocean's 13 on HD-DVD off your hands.

I havent had qualification as to what each disc was offered at but if they are available on blu - the red discs arent going to get you anything at all ( I would be surprised at £1/2 a disc) and Film vault will not agree to purchase any collection valued less than £90 - they pay for courier so I guess thats part of it, it also has to be worth their while

Good luck, the valuation of course costs nothing

same thing happened to me in August - i might be silly, but it actually felt kind of sad, like some kind of betrayal against an old friend.

oddly enough, my HD DVD buying has actually picked up some pace since - started (possibly out of guilt?) picking up ridicilously priced japanese releases
