Trainspotting

Hi,

I have always loved the film and had it on VHS when it was released. I never bought the dvd as it was often difficult to find at a reasonable price. I was really looking forward to the blu-ray relase of Trainspotting, but was put off by the negativity surrounding the PQ and juddering etc. However, I can get my hands on the blu-ray for £7.95. Is it worth it? Should I hold out for it to come down in price even further?

It's worth buying for that price. The PQ is an upgrade over the DVD version, no lossless audio though and I can put up with the judder issues. It'll do me until a better version becomes available, if it ever does.

That is possibly what is preventing me from buying...the fact that there may well, at some point, be another version released with no judder and lossless audio. However, being that it is maybe not the most popular film ever, is that really likely to happen within the next 5 years? I'm sure distributors have far more pressing films on their blu-ray release list.

Mmmm...even more unsure as to what to do now. Thanks for your input though.

P.S. I used to enjoy a pint in the pub where the glassing scene is filmed.

Re: Trainspotting

The problem lies with the master I think,I had the Japanese blu ray and while it had no juddering issues (I personally never experienced any such issues with the UK blu ray) it was obviously taken from the same master.
There where even rumors at the time of release about it being upscaled SD.
Sadly I've resigned myself to the fact that we are unlikely to ever see a greatly improved version due to the copyright and rights holders ever being willing or in a position to invest the kind of money needed for the sort of restoration/re-master it would need to improve the pq drastically.

Aw pants, I just ordered this from HMV in their sale. I am not that obsessive over PQ. I hope this judder is not to bad.

Cancel it mate I thought the Trainspotting: Definitive Edition (5.1/DTS) on DVD looked and sounded better.

+1 I love the film too, but giving us carp like this on what is supposed to be a better platform is just taking the Pee.

My DVD version will do me fine.
