Thumbs up Galaxy Quest-first review!

Looks like another winner from Paramount.

Galaxy Quest - BD Review at DVDfile.com

This was a great dvd, especially the DTS track, so any improvement must be pretty damn good.

Happens to be a very funny film too.

Re: Galaxy Quest-first review!

Someone reminded me it was coming out the other day. I will definitely get a copy because I've never owned it on any format (just rented it the once) and it's a quality film. That's a not a particularly thorough review though. No mention of whether the disc sports the multiple aspect ratios of the theatrical version for one thing.

Re: Galaxy Quest-first review!

Galaxy Quest looked okay on DVHS, and given Paramount's predilection of DNR'ing the **** out of their catalogue titles, I was expecting the worst. But that review gives me hope.

Re: Galaxy Quest-first review!

Has any review confirmed whether it's region locked? I've got this pre-ordered, but will only want it if it's region free.

I could have sworn it was Dreamworks, do Paramount distribute for them?

I wouldn't mind knowing too as it will be on my Xmas list if that is the case.

It has one of my favourite scenes in any film -

When they leave spacedock and scrape the side of the spaceship and the look on the cast faces.

So much better than a similar scene in Starship Troopers

Personally the look on Freds face when tentacled is the highlight for me.

Re: Galaxy Quest-first review!

Sam Rockwell stealing every damn scene is my highlight. His rant about air while on board the shuttlecraft is comedy gold, and there's a wonderfully goofy moment of his during the alternate ending (check the deleted scenes).

Uncensored Sigourney Weaver F-bomb?
It's quite obvious what she's saying in the offending scene.

I always liked that being censored so it wouldn't bother me if it was still like that.

Re: Galaxy Quest-first review!

As good as that scene coming out of spacedock, what bother me is...:

...the great big bloody wing which would have somewhat gotten in the way ages before the front "hull" would have been scraped. Even as it leaves the space dock you see this massive sodding wing protruding miles outwards

Best bit? "...and it exploded!"

Can't WAIT for this to come out on Blu-ray. Instant purchase for me.

This too me by surprise. The UK version was released this week without me knowing about it. Hopefully, now there is a chance to get it under £10 and not have to keep waiting for the US one to drop.

Paramount are next to useless when it comes to publicising their catalogue titles.

If it's a port of the US version, then ye are in for a treat. The picture and sound aren't spectacular IMO, but they are very solid and easily best any previous version.

I agree with Sly Fly's moan (above) about the spacedock scene. Every time I see that bit it annoys the **** out of me. Good job the rest of the movie is so damned good.

I bought the R1 as well when it came out but it wasn't anything near £30 and was less than £20.

Hi.

At the time i bought it, around 1999 / 2000, i was not on the internet.
Bought it in London at the Cinema Store.
Always pop in to have a quiet chuckle at the prices now, £29.95 for recent RA releases.
The prices there are still extortionate.
Last time i was in, the comedian, Phill Jupitus was buying around a dozen Blu Rays. Suppose he can afford them though.

I honestly don't understand how you can say this. Two reasons: one - it was one of the funniest, most unexpected gags in the entire film (thanks to it's perfect delivery by Weaver) and two - it has to be one of the sloppiest, botched overdubs I've ever had the misfortune to see and hear.

How can you prefer it this way?

It's a crime that such ham-fisted buggering about is still studio practice.

Was that the little store with the locked door? The guy inside had to press a button to let you in. I only went once but I spent a fortune on Laserdiscs.

Man, that brings back memories...

The Laserdisc Shop in Notting Hill.
The Cinema Store in St Martin's Lane (opposite Stringfellows Night Club).
The Disc Emporium...

Wow... all names from the past.

I miss their mailers, newsletters and booklets!

Re: Galaxy Quest ? Hmmm. Like parts of it, not so keen on others. Will give it a second watch though as I have the BD.

You thought it was a deliberate overdub? Ok...thats...kinda weird...

I guess vaguely get where you're coming from though.

Not half as funny as the original gag

It wasn't botched at all. It was done on purpose for comedic effect.
