PAYBACK - Mel Gibson - Is the new UK blu-ray cut?

PAYBACK with Mel Gibson - Is the new UK blu-ray cut? I just watched the "Director's Cut" version and one of the Chinese thugs was flicking a butterfly knife and was gonna use until the cops turned up.
Is this the scene that is usually cut in the UK?

The UK BD is completely uncut. That goes for both versions of the movie.

Just watched the directors version yesterday and .. well .. I wish they had released that version instead! It's brilliant! Miles better than the "studio approved " version they made Mel finish off! It's a really good disc too, good quality extras and the Theatrical version too!

Bargain.

and yes..BOTH versions of the movie contain the previously cut butterfly knife sequence

I agree. I think I prefer the darker and less humorous Director's Cut.

Is the Theatrical Cut more "blurry" to you on your bluray?

Nope. PQ was fine to me. The print they used for the theatrical had more dirt, and the master was maybe not as well done than the directors.. but still better than SD dvd. The blue tint didn't work as well.

But yes.. The Directors is definitely the superior version. Didn't drag as much, and Porter came across as much harder and uncompromising. Loved it.

I mean... in the theatrical.. SPOILER below

The dog surviving a shot to the head?? c'mon..

I also purchased this - a real bagain - in essence 2 different films for £10. It would be harder to think of many films which have been released which have such different versions (The last Exorcist film spring to mind.....and Kingdom of Heaven which is really just extended rather than different).

Well, people differ in what they regard as entertainment and I have to differ with previous posters.I thought the Theatrical version with Kris Kristofferson as a villain was far superior and much more satisfying. It must be one of the first Directors cut where a complete section is actually removed.Normally they like to add to the original release.I have the directors cut on HD DVD and will look forward to buying the BD with it's theatrical version as well as the Directors cut.

Another vote here for The Director's Cut. Plays better and looks better.

Would agree with Brian here - watched the Directors Cut last night and had watched Theatrical Version a few weeks ago. Liked both but preferred the Theatrical Version - like Brian thought Kristofferson added a lot and again just found it all the more satisfying. Until the last 3rd of the film there wasnt that much difference between the two versions but then that last 3rd was totally different. The commentary on the Directors Cut is worth listening to at the end of the film just to clarify the ending which is ambiguous (well it was for me until I listened to it). Thing is in neither version does Mel Gibson really come across as that bad a guy which surely was what was originally promised. Very pleased the Blu Ray has both versions and some very nice extras too.

Just watched the director's cut and thought it was a very good film even though I'm not a fanof Mel Gibson.. Will watch the theatrical one in a few days.

Re: PAYBACK - Mel Gibson - Is the new UK blu-ray cut?

Watched the theatrical cut as well now and quite enjoyed the film. PQ not even close to the directors cut but still good. Liked the Kristoferson character, Gibson was great apart from when he was 'in the chair' - everything I don't like about him but thankfully he was OK in the rest of the film.

Directors is my favourite but how good is it to have them both eh?!

Not an extras fan but actually watched the making of the directors cut and enjoyed it.
