Cool Cartel of Blu Ray Sellers?

Just wondering has it ever crossed any ones mind that there seems to be a cartel of suppliers.

All the disc for a majority of places are with in a few pennies of each other.
One of the biggest examples of price fixing seems to be on Iron Man for some reason it doesent drop below just under £18 yet been out nearly a year and if it does it only for a few days and then up again.

Last week it droped under £14 and the vast majority of online retails had it round the same price, then bang more or less in unison went back up to just under £18.

Re: Cartel of Blu Ray Sellers?

There's not that many UK sellers left to be honest.

HMV
Play
The Hut
DVD.co.uk
Amazon

and then I start to struggle..............

Re: Cartel of Blu Ray Sellers?

Just had a browse around Smiths at the Metrocentre and the prices were crazy. Benjamin Button was nearly 22 quid and most were 17, 18 quid.

All the older titles were a tenner, the really old titles.

Tesco had Fast and Furious for £17.71 and Witch Mountain for £21.73. I chuckled and walked away.

The price of Ironman (and other titles) is purely down to what the distributor wants it sold at. It is why some companies set their BD's prices cheaper than others. It is up to them to allow the suppliers to buy cheaper. They buy a certain amount of stock at x amount and once sold out, it goes back up to what the old price as that was bought at a higher price.
