Re: New TV reccomendations

Battlestar Galactica.

Don't dismiss me, you'll get the same amount of politics and hard-hitting character drama you get in The West Wing. That's my recommendation anyhow.

Re: New TV reccomendations

Comedy? Hmm - Two And A Half Men, Californication, The Big Bang Theory - I would say Reaper but that got cancelled after 2 seasons and there's nothing worse than getting into a series and it getting canned - Terminator Sarah Conner Chronicles

What can I say about Heroes - people with 'superhuman abilities - flying, invisibilty, time travel & teleportation, you name it you got it really in a the good ol battle between good and evil) it starts well in series 1, admittedly it takes a bit of a dip in 2 & 3 but hopefully new series is back with a bang

Also you didn't mention giving The Unit a go - this is one of my favs American Military series with Robert Patrick (T-1000?? from Terminator 2), Dennis Haysbert who played President Palmer in 24 and Scott Foley who had a bit role in Scrubs as Elliots boyfriend Sean.

"Curb Your Enthusiasm" and
"It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" are the funniest things to me but make sure you watch them in order
you might like OZ or even Dark Angel if you watched Alias

Re: New TV recommendations

If you liked True Blood, I would recommend Six Feet Under. It's an HBO series which couldn't be more different, but it's from the head writer and creator of True Blood, Alan Ball. It's a terrific mix of black comedy and complex drama that centers on the Fishers, a family portrayed by a stellar cast who work and live in a funeral home.

Re: New TV recommendations

Scrubs still stands up, I have all seven seasons and still watch them regularly. Its one of the few american comedies I find genuinely funny as it is close to brit humour. The scene where Jordan is discussing her surname with Carla is just classic "What ??, you dont like Cox ??", "No I love Cox" .. .. Or dig out Life on Mars again, one of the best tv series ever I reckon.

Re: New TV recommendations

Californication gets my vote for best new comedy (ok so 2nd series has just come out on dvd)

Absolutely brilliant imo

Just bought Fringe which is meant to be quite good if you want to see an updated XFiles type series

I will have to check out The Unit as that sounds quite cool too

30 Rock

Liz Lemon, head writer of the sketch comedy show "TGS with Tracy Jordan", must deal with an arrogant new boss and a crazy new star, all while trying to run a successful TV show without losing her mind.

Pushing Daises

Ned possesses the unique talent of being able to bring the life to dead merely by touching them. However, the person may remain alive only for one minute, or else someone else dies for them. A second touch will render the person dead again, unable to be revived. Through his connections with PI Emerson Cod, Ned revives his childhood sweetheart, Chuck. The trio, aided occasionally by Olive Snook, helps solve the mysteries of various murders, whose murderer is often surprising.

How I Met Your Mother

Egged on by his best friend's upcoming nuptials, Ted believes he finds the woman of his dreams in Robin -- though destiny might have something different in mind.

Re: New TV recommendations

I don't watch many comedies, but these are the ones I remember enjoying in the last few years...
- Coupling (the original, British version). A few years old now, and you probably saw it on TV, but if you didn't you really should try it. (I'm rewatching it on DVD.)
- Greg the Bunny (only one season and only on region 1 DVD I think).
- 30 Rock (yes, season 2 is very good too).
- Californication.

Currently quite enjoying Reno 911 on E4. It's a spoof fly-on-the-wall series, following the Reno city police.
