Blockbuster rental service

I am currently with lovefilm, however we dont seem to get many new releases.

Have had films such as - knowing, 17 again, gran torino, hes just not that into you, i love you man, marley and me

on my high priority list for a good number of weeks now, but i keep getting medium priority ones.

So i am looking at trying the blockbuster service, however there doesnt seem any prices on there website ? can anyone provide me with there pricing please

also if you want to, can you take these online films back to your local blockbusters and swop them there for a new film ? as that would be ideal as i have to pass blockbusters every day on way to work.

Also have noticed they are affilated with quidco which is always a bonus Is there any deals with blockbuster like lovefilm for 90 day trials instead of usual 15 days or whatever it is.

Ok i think i have gone on enough now. Thanks in advance for any info

Chris, interestingly enough, I have had a similar experience with LoveFilm recently. I also have had films on the High Priority list (nd even Medium Priority) for ages but all they send me are low priority with the odd smattering of medium.

I have written to them a couple of times but I just get a stock answer about as they are available. The last time, I posed the question to them that they have grown too quickly in terms of subscribers but they have not kept up in the number of titles they are buying - got no response !

It is really annoying and I would have left ages ago but I am on a great deal which got transferred from Amazon (£9.99 for 3 discs at a time, max of 6 in a month). The 6 in a month is fine for me most of the time but I really like having the choice of 3 discs at anyone time to watch.

Let me know how you get on

Re: Blockbuster rental service

Blockbuster online are fantastic, wipe the floor with Lovefilm.

When I was a member I was getting my Blu-rays on day of release. Gran Torino, Quantum of Solace etc.

It is £12.71 for a months 2 disk unlimited membership.

or £20 for a months 2 disk with Games unlimted membership.

You cannot return the disks to the stores though, from what I have heard you can in the US but not here in the UK.

You do get 1 free rental per month to use in the store though.

*Edit*

Here are all the rental plans they have

I was a member of Blockbuster until June for about five months and it was just for renting blu-rays, then DeepDiscount.coms 25% sale was on so bought a whole bunch of stuff to watch from them

so cancelled my membership as I don't have enough time for both.

Will be rejoinig closer to Christmas when I have got through all these.

I am however a member now of GamesFrenzy for my Ps3 and 360 rentals and can highly recommend them too, got Halo ODST and Batman AA on day of release on rent with them (still just been playing Call of Duty though).

Re: Blockbuster rental service

Thanks for all the quick information.

Think i am going to join blockbusters free 2 week trial (is there any codes or anything to extend this ??)

Will see how it goes, and if all goes well, may cancel love film and join blockies.

The thing with the online rental companies, which I figured was pretty much well known now but going to mention it again if not.

They prioritize new members over old. So new members will pretty much always get their high top wanted disks, and someone who has been there for a few months gets put down to low priority.

You also find that when you first signed up its a 2 day turn around to sending the disks back to getting the new, but after a few months it gets dropped to 3 and 4 day turnaround.

Its appalling and odd that is goes on but it does with all companies.

So the trick is to cancel and leave the account stagnant for a few months and it resets and then rejoin and you are back to the high priority.

So it is worth alternating between Lovefilm and blockbuster (only use the 3 months free vouchers when it comes to lovefilm - never pay them - these vouchers come out every now and again and can be used for people who have been members in the past).

I haven't paid Lovefilm in years.

Also to add with Gamesfrenzy if you cancel they often send you fantastic offers to rejoin. At the moment I am on 3 months unlimited 2 disk rentals for £21. Works out at £7 per month when it should be £15 per month. Bargain!

Re: Blockbuster rental service

have been with lovefilm for about 2 - 3 months now, so would still think am relatively new.

Very good point about alternating, as i noticed lovefilm seem to offer regular trials.

To add then it also depends on how many disks you get out per month.

It says 1 month unlimited rentals but it really is not. They have a hidden set number they think you should be allowed to rent in that month.

If you go over it your account gets put down to low priority and thus you go from 2 day turn around to the 3-4 day turnaround.

Its their way of forcing you to slow down in rentals.

Again the only way to reset it is to cancel, leave it stagnant for a short while and rejoin.

Re: Blockbuster rental service

Ok, have taken a trial with blockbusters. went through quidco so some cashback and it extends the trial to 4 weeks. so all well and good.

If like will be cancelling lovefilm and go with blockbusters for a few months, then go back to lovefilm for free trial

With the lovefilm account, if i cancel, does my username stay with lovefilm and will they just Email me or something with offers to re-join etc ?

thanks again for the help

Re: Blockbuster rental service

I cancelled my trial period with Blockbusters. I got just 1 disc in a little less than two weeks depsite sending the disc back in less 48 hours. I had over 40 titles in my list. LF was much better. In my 3 months trial I got 24 Blu Ray and 22 DVD's.

The trials only work once even if you cancel the subscription.

Agree I was in the position of being a member of both loveilm and BB at the same time IMO BB much better for paying members, their ties mean they can get rentals before lovefilm (off the top of my head just this summer, in the loop, grand torino and outlander ). Quicker turnaround, no trottling and a decent number of new releases. As for quidco this didn't track, but they did pay up in the end.
