Con Air

Watched this last night on bluray and it was a joy to watch. The PQ on the bluray was very good and the film still holds up even after so many years.

Having seen The Rock not so long ago, I prefer this movie as it has a better cast and also I thought that it has more action in it.

Good roles from Malkovich, Buscemi, Cusack and Cage.

One of the better action movies of the 90s.

Anyone else like this film?

Yeah, I personally think Con Air is one of Cage's better films from around that time, including The Rock and Face/off.

I'm with you on the order of those films. All great films mind you.

I'd also like to give the PCM soundtrack on Con Air a big up.

Re: Con Air

I'd say Con Air is the only Cage film I could watch more than once, his wooden monotone style fits Cameron Poe quite well but in anything else just bores me to tears.

Have this sitting in my Cart over at Amazon.com at the moment.

Personally I think it's a great blast and one of my fave (of the few that I like since i'm no great fan of his) Nic Cage films.

It is without a doubt Cage's best movie to date.
In fact it's the only other movie i liked him in apart from Knowing & Face Off.

In a world where 'Leaving Las Vegas', 'Raising Arizona', 'Wild At Heart', 'Bringing Out The Dead' and 'Captain Correllis Mandolin' don't exist it perhaps places somewhere in the top five and then only just.

Don't know whether or not it's better than Con Air, but Leaving Las Vegas is a fantastic film and a brilliant performance from Cage. I wouldn't think twice about picking this up on Blu-Ray, if and when it's released

Re: Con Air

'Raising Arizona' is 1000x the film that 'Con Air' is or will ever be.

As for the 'Wicker Man' remake I've not seen it, I suspect it's better than 'Con Air' though if it bears any resemblance at all to the original.

Agreed.

I watched a HDTV version of Leaving Las Vegas and it really is a fantastic film and probably one of the best films filmed in Vegas having been there myself.

I would say that Cage's best performances have been in Rasing Arizona, Leaving Las Vegas and Con Air.

You can't really compare Raising Arizone and Con Air as they are two totally different films and both are excellent in their own rights.

Got both The Rock and Con Air on the release on blu ray.

Con-Air is also one of my guilty pleasures and agree it has it all.

Cage at his best, amazing suppot cast including Malkovich ( Cy .... onara ) on absolutely top form

Good story, sharp dialogue, awesome action scenes, great music score and looks and sounds amazing on blu ray.

I have to admit I do prefer The Rock though, as I think that edges Con Air in every department including what is an astonishingly stunning music score.

Connery plays a superb role in the movie too and love the scene where ED Harris says to him "and I thought I had been in the service a long time"

Check out the blu ray scene in The Rock where the seals are getting their prep talk by the choppers just before they are about the embark on the Alcatraz under water break in. The steel pylons in the back ground and the choppers as they take off look amazing in HD.

As for Con Air though it is a classic for sure which I enjoy watching over and over again and never tire of seeing AZZKIKER getting trashed

Re: Con Air

Con Air is a classic piece of late 90's action/comedy!
The casting, script, set pieces are all superb. And it's well funny as well!

The bit where Colm Meany's car gets demolished is great!

Here's a long clip (The car scene starts at 4min 55secs!)

How does the UK PQ compare with the US release?

The US version looks great and it would be nice if it matched the UK release. I have put it in my Lovefilm account.

It looks the same, as far as I can tell.
One of the quintessential action movies of the nineties. I love it.

That's great. I have never actually seen this on DVD. I watched it a number of times of TV (complete with wrong aspect ratio on BBC1).

You're in for a treat then. There were so many films that had astounding laserdisc releases, then they had terrible DVDs. Con Air was one of them, Face/Off another. We're still waiting on an acceptable HD release of Face/Off.
