DOLLHOUSE Region 2 DVD picture quality

Just to let anyone who is going to buy this DVD know, the picture quality is quite poor with low resolution, filters & edge enhancement. It is one of the lowest quality boxsets or even compared to movie dvd's i have seen in ages (It reminded me of Lethal weapon 4 picture, Yikes!!). I am watching it on upscaled PS3 on a top range LCD which has been set up perfectly & normally dvd's like Smallville, Lost etc look fantastic for DVD. If you have a blu-ray player i would wait for the Blu-ray version, don't be lulled by the cheap price of the boxset. Anyone with a CRT SD TV feel free to ignore this post as it will probably look okay. Very Disappointed to say the least. Regards

Decided to check out more episodes for picture quality before selling it & luckily episodes 2 & 4 seem to be much improved & look pretty decent, it looks like maybe the pilot episode was the bad one, here's hoping. I apologize for my rashness in posting above i was just so disgusted!!

Re: DOLLHOUSE Region 2 DVD picture quality

Still unhappy with this dvd boxset. By the 5th episode the quality drops a bit again I think its time to get rid of this ASAP & await a blu-ray release. Regards

I've only seen upto Gray Hour (all of disc 1) on my Panasonic 32" LCD I've seen no problems picture wise. A little underwhelmed so far with the series, no trademark Whedon feel to the show, few laughs, no witty banter etc. It's no Buffy, Angel or Firefly.

Agree just don't feel Whedon was as deeply involved, it may have his name all over it but not sure the consept was his, the later episodes do get better,
episode 13, the box set only one is prob one of the best. The viewing figures for series 2 in the US have not been good, will be suprised is series 3 comes along ( come on this Fox ). But then someone may point out how much income his series have generated on dvd and take the longer view ( but prob not this is Fox). Sorry if I sound bitter about fox , firefly was /is one of my all time fav's. Also still bitter with the way they ended series two of the Terminator series and then cancelling it

Whedon is credited as the creator, executive producer, writer of 20 episodes and director of 3 episodes. Perhaps his style has changed. People can get bored with the same old way of doing things.

May be I miss heard one of the making of docs on the pal box set which implied Eliza Dushku asked Whedon to come on board as producer Fans will tune in just because of his involment ( Yes I'm one of those sad peop that listen to commentaries and watch making of docs )As for how many ep Joss wrote ?? there only been 16 ep aired in the US. Ep 13 was def written by Jed Whedon (joss's brother) who is one of the series writers and his as his wife ( another Whedon??, they even joke about Dollhouse being a family business). Story consept may of been Joss's, execution wasn't. As for getting bored well Joss Whedon in interviews always seems to present a cynical (not sure if thats the right word? it is late) veneer. Toofer and echo def come over as almost standard Whedon characters, Def has flavour of a Whedon show, but may be not enough of the wit. I remember watching him accept a viewers award from Mr Ross on film 2000 and whatever for Serenity Very few peop would say Dollhouse is a great show, def has potential, which it hasn't realised yet. Whether fox will let it stick around????

Maybe he was credited as the creator just to get this series made. After all his brother isn't a big enough name yet to get a project off the ground. As for the writer of 20 episodes I do wonder if that is strictly true. I did notice that at the end of one of the episodes they credit staff writers, including his brother. When I watch more episodes I will check to see if this happens every episode. I just can't see Joss writing so many episodes in their entirety, it's very rare to see a writer pen so many episodes over a couple of seasons.
