A Blu-ray hasn't been annonced to my knowledge, but I'm sure it will come out eventually. It's a pleasantly old fashioned and underrated thriller and I rather like it. The DVD transfer was made when DVD was still a new medium and it looks pretty ropey now.

I would say about half way thru it's life cycle I would'nt say DVD was new when this was released.

I am looking forward to it too, I really enjoyed it and it is sutably creepy in certain places it really feels like a supernatural Hitcock film to me.

Whatever you consider early or not (I got the R1 of this in early 2001), I watched the DVD on my projector recently and it looked rather poor. Then it was considered a state of the art transfer.

Me too, region 1 for me as well. The trouble is no matter how new or old the DVD is I still think it looks poor compared to Blu.

I think I may have said the same thing about Contact, when I first got that everyone was raving about the transfer but when you watch it now its shocking.

Re: what lies beneath - blu-ray?

It actually looks pretty similar to the Contact DVD. It just lacks the type if detail you get with later DVDs. On my projector these earlier releases are close to unwatchable, while discs with good transfers from 2003/4 onwards look tolerable.

Haven't times moved on!! I remember those transfers beng excellent now we say they are unwatchable, I agree entirely though it is really difficult for me to watch some of those old DVD's on the big screen. watching them on my little 24 inch flat panel upstairs is alright though.

I also only had a 32" telly then and these DVDs looked fine.
