Bin the boxes ?

Have loads of DVD's that are pretty much worthless now and have started to store the disks in CD wallets, the amount of space I have saved is quite astonishing but instead of storing the boxes, should I just bin them ?

The digi-paks and boxsets will remain, it's mainly the amaray cases I plan to dispose of. Although I have a few Superbits I am unsure about

Anyone else had similar thoughts ?

Re: Bin the boxes ?

I would keep the boxes and store them in the loft or some where. You never know you may get an OK offer for them later on down the line if you do decide to sell. The value will be even less without the boxes.

They are not really films I would sell on or replace on Bluray and will never be worth anything really

If you are not going to replace them with Blu-Ray discs then I'd say bin the boxes. Either way, with or without the boxes they ain't going to be worth much being DVD's unless you have some rarities.

Re: Bin the boxes ?

If you know for a fact 100% that you will never get rid of them it is then down to choice. If you don't mind the look of them without the cases then and pre fair more space the choice is simple. But on the other hand if you pre fair them with them keep them. There is always those big pack wallets as well they store something like 200 discs that you could consider. Example here Buy 208 CD/DVD Wallet. at Argos.co.uk - Your Online Shop for .

One thing to think about the case don't effect the film

Re: Bin the boxes ?

The only reason I would consider getting rid of them would be to make more space for Blu's

I have two CD wallets that hold 60 each and have nearly filled both up already, all the rest of the DVD's are either digi-paks or boxsets which I plan to leave though

Re: Bin the boxes ?

I've binned most of my boxes because I keep my DVDs and Blu-rays in paper sleeves in filing boxes. I keep the covers in folders. I live in a one bedroom flat and don't like having shelves on every wall. I'm not that attached to DVDs as objects, the only thing I care about is the content. Recently I decided to sell the DVDs for which I still get money and I bought boxes for something like 20 pence each. I don't really sell anything that makes less than £4 for me, so it's worth it and meanwhile I didn't have to find space for something like 800 boxes.

Re: Bin the boxes ?

I am in the process of storing all my DVD's, HD DVD's and blu-rays in the loft. I have not used any optical disc player for several months now, having ripped all my movies to hard drive, and using WD TV HD as the media player. I wouldn't get rid of the boxes though - just store them in the loft.

Thumbs up Re: Bin the boxes ?

Punt the boxes, really another excuse to charge you more money.
Plastic sleeves have 100 flicks in a small bag. 100DVD boxes would be another 4 shelves

Pointless

Re: Bin the boxes ?

I took all of my dvd cases to the local tip a few weeks back
my discs now live in 4 of the 200 disc zip up carry cases.
but I did keep all the paper sleeves from each dvd case in a drawer.
I even chucked my metal cases and box set cases out at the same time.
my blu rays are still in their cases though,
but that will change when I get too many of the damned things !

Re: Bin the boxes ?

I recently did this with all my cd's. As I had ripped them all into iTunes they were just gathering dust. So I got a 240 disc pack and put them all in keeping the front cover which fit nicely in-front of the discs in the pouches. The space saving was immense.

I thought about doing it with my DVDs but decided against it as i didn't want to throw the covers away but couldn't find a case that they would fit in without folding.

I guess I could just store them though...

Re: Bin the boxes ?

I was think of chucking the boxes for most of mine - or perhaps the loft.

Over 2,500 takes up so much space plus finding the right one is a challenge.

Re: Bin the boxes ?

Yep, did a weekend tip trip and binned most of my cases, so much space saved! The missus kept all her TV boxset cases and I kept Red Dwarf simply because of the spine designs and booklets. The only other booklets I kept were the Seinfeld ones so I can look up episodes and yes, my CD case wasn't best suited, but just about works.

Been wanting to do this for a while, had held off in case of resale, but with Blu Ray inevitably cheapening the DVD second hand market and I sold the majority of the dead wood last year, it was time.

Re: Bin the boxes ?

This wallet looks good for the price. Each side holds 4 discs with each sleeve being inter-changeable. So you can move them around allowing you to keep the folder updated when you add or remove extra discs. Thats if your sad like me and keep everything in alphabetical order
