One-time editing of a commercial DVD?

Hey guys,

I'm a complete stranger to this forum but know it's spots like this where you can find the best answers to unorthodox questions...

I have an original personal copy of a commercial DVD that I would like edited very slightly (I want one 90-second clip cut out of it then have it stitched back together), strictly for personal use. Are there services or people out there who would do something like this?

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

The simple answer is, yes there are probably services that may do it for you, but what you are wanting to do is illegal, as it breaches copyright infringement laws. Also, they will charge you an arm-and-a-leg, if they even agree to do it for you.

Is there a specific reason why you need this 90-seconds removing from the film/programme in question?

If it is **purely** for personal use then it is entirely legal to remove a section. Whether it is legal to do this editing on someone else's behalf though is indeed a different matter...one could take a view that it was indeed production of a derivative work.

My company does do this sort of work and I agree, we wouldn't touch it it unless the OP was the copyright owner or had a license to produce a derivative work.

However that doesn't prevent me from saying to the OP that he should look at ffmpeg or mencoder to do this for himself.
