King Kong BLURAY Vs HDDVD

Hi All

As an owner of the HDDVD version I'm considering buying the bluray version especially if they've sorted that jump in the film where the Heroine is entertaining Kong.

Regards

Well, she is jumping around a lot to entertain him. Don't know why you'd want that sorted.

Chortle chortle don't give up the day job Seriously though during the aforementioned sequence the picture actually jumps due to a step in the disc,I just wondered if th Bluray version had managed to over come this anoyance.

I've never had the HD, but I watched the BD of King Kong recently and never noticed any strange jump. Was it a known problem on the HD ?

I have the HD DVD and have no intention of upgrading for the lossless audio. Regards "that jump in the film"? I have no idea what you are talking about. Just checked the scene on my HD DVD and it seems to be as I imagine it should be to me.

Re: King Kong BLURAY Vs HDDVD

There is a slightly unusual edit in Poltergeist (it cuts off a line of dialogue)which has led to lots if Internet debates, but it's always been the same and is supposed to be like that.

To johnr2110 and Will Scarlet, What machines are you using? The difference could be down to the player you're each using.

Re: King Kong BLURAY Vs HDDVD

As I don't have lossless audio capabilty, the HD DVD will do me just fine especially as it only cost me £2.99. The picture quality is very nice.

The Blu-Ray features the longer cut of the film too if that's of interest, The HD-DVD only had the Theatrical cut.

That's not always an advantage. Can you play the standard version on the Blu-Ray?

I haven't seen the extended version as I have the HD DVD. I believe it is another 15 minutes long. I do know most of the extra is on Skull Island.

Mild DNR has been applied on select scenes on the Blu-ray but you need a +20/20 vision to spot this in motion.

The extended version on the BD is pretty good I love the film anyway, which always helps. I can never see which version I've selected on the first screen though, can't tell which colour means it's been highlighted lol. Thankfully the next screen makes it clear!

I was ready to hate this film before watching it (just couldnt see the point in a King Kong remake and I hate Jack Black!) but I have to admit, although its not up to Peter Jacksons other stuff, its very good fun!

I even got over my Jack Black hate in this film!

Will definitely pick this up on blu when it comes down a bit.

My sentiments entirely, especially about JB.I viewed it on Sky HD and have it on HD dvd.The ape is very real and I found the film surprisingly good, and a little sad at the end

I thought they were fine mate. A few more dinosaurs but they seemed to be "cohesive" with the rest of the image to me.

Re: King Kong BLURAY Vs HDDVD

There is only one bad bit of cgi which is due to green screen on the HD-DVD so the Blu should be the same. It is the bit where they are running in between/under the dinos. After a few seconds I couldn't care less about it and carried on watching the film.

Re: King Kong BLURAY Vs HDDVD

There are always going to be a few effects moments that aren't 100%, but there is an stylised look to the film that nothing is supposed to look completely naturalistic anyway, so it works.

Kong himself is the most perfectly realised CG character so far in a live action film and the reconstruction of 1930s New York is breathtaking. Personally I think this is the best of Jackson's Hollywood films (I'm a big fan of Braindead), but then I never much cared for Tolkien.
