NTSC question.

Alright everyone.

My Grandad is looking for the Eddy Duchin Story on DVD.

The cheapest way for me to get it seems to be Ebay, but it's from South Korea by freight and it say NTSC video. Will this play if his equipment is Pal? I don't think his DVD player is region free.

It's says the region coding is all so I'm a bit confused. I don't know what the difference is.

How old is your grandads TV? Most modern TVs can accept an NTSC signal no problem .The disc will play fine on the DVD player.

First, make sure it's a legit DVD. It probably is, but it pays to check.

To echo the above, what kind of TV does he have?

Also, region 2 DVD players have to output NTSC as Japan is also R2 and NTSC. So, it is down to what TV it is. I would have thought it would have to be really old not to do NTSC. I was watching NTSC material 15 years ago on a Sony TV. From what I remember if it is a RGB scart connection then PAL and NTSC is not a factor anyway.

Check his TV manual to see if it has NTSC as well as PAL. If he doesn't have the manual you should be able to find it online. I think most reasonably modern PAL TVs can take NTSC but it's best to check first. Do you have any region free NTSC DVDs in your own collection to check?

I'm not sure how old the TV is. It's not an old nager or anything, probably a 28" full screen CRT, one scart socket.

If I did run into any problems could I rip the film and change the output to PAL? I've got Any DVD. I thought it would be ok considering I don't have to remove any region coding.

I don't have any region free discs to check first, first timebuying one, and something NTSC related.

How do I do that apart from takin gtheir word for it?

Not easily. It needs some compression and processing know-how - is there no native PAL version available to start with?

And yeah, you'd have to take your word on it's authenticity, I guess.
