The Reader Blu ray- possible problem

I was wondering if someone may have an answer to this~ just watched The Reader on Blu ray (UK/Irish release) and on my Sony BDP-S350 the little blue light on the front panel that indicates the disc is 24fps does not light up. Does this indicate an interlaced image rather than a progressive image...is there a problem with the disc mastering?

Dubliner 1,

You are right it is interlaced. I took mine back for a refund. The ordered a region free copy from amazon which is 1080p/24, however some idiot at Amazon has sent me a Canadian copy which is region locked [Region 1], as I've opened the package I can't return it!!!

mmm, I ordered some Blu-rays too from playusa dot com and received Canadian versions (I assumed they were the US version, and they are in fact advertised as Region 'A'- same as Canada)- sounds like the retailers may be saving some $ by doing this (possibly in taxes or shipping?)...you have to be careful because frequently the Canadian versions have inferior technical specs compared to the US disc- missing extras, single layered v dual layered, interlaced v progressive...

It's amazing that there are companies putting out 50i Blu-ray Discs - going from a "sped-up European" source back to the proper speed is usually a ridiculously easy task.

Rob, which Amazon site did you order this from? Wanted the US version myself but don't want to end up with a region locked disc.

According to website dvd beaver dot com U.S. Weinstein blu-ray is 'Region-free'...not sure who you would order this from as a lot of online retailers are sending Canadian 'Region A' discs when you think you are getting the U.S. 'Region A' version ( I just got 5 Blu-rays from play usa dot com- correctly advertised as 'Region A', but all were Canadian discs- thankfully the specs were the same as the U.S. version but many Region 'A' titles released in Canada have inferior specs to Region 'A' discs in the U.S.

Playusa have often sent me Canadian DVDs. It was never really a problem for me before as the bilingual covers didn't bother me and the specs tended to be the same (for the films I ordered at least). I was going to order The Reader from Amazon.com (i.e. the US site) as they have always sent me US discs in the past but was a bit worried by Rob's post.
