Hi Rasczak,

Haven't seen any release dates but the player has the BD Live logo on the front of it so I assume it's profile 2.0.

Cheers,

Hi Rasczak,

Quote from the Sony press site:

"To make the most of the extra features becoming available on Blu-ray Disc releases, the S5000ES is compatible with BD-Live and BonusView, This enables it to access exciting online services and extra content, such as commentaries and special features, which can be downloaded from the Internet and saved on the included 1GB USB flash storage device."

BD Live (profile 2.0) full decoding over the analogues etc and that fancy upconversion colour thingy (same as the Pioneer) for Blu-ray movies that everyone's getting excited about. Also,in the video the Sony guy said the DVD playback was absolutely superb.
All the best.

Cheers guys - sounds like it may be a player to add to the demo list. I don't suppose anyone knows whether it has a 'proper' menu system or the silly X-Bar used on the 350/550?

Hi friend,

I totally agree with what you said about this player looking smart.
I have thier reference SACD player sacd 9000es, which is built like a tank and weighs about 18kg...operated like silk and you cannot hear the tray opening or closing, plays like a dream and is built to last......forever.

The new reference bluray BDP S5000ES has finally got everything and to my mind will be worth the asking price....to be honest I anticipate this to be around £2,200 Recommended Retail. but should be able to reduce to around £1,800......This will take about 6 months of hard work to purchase, but for me will be worth every penny.

Hope life is treating you well friend?

Honest regards from a stanger and fellow enthusiast.

Hi benmbe.
I reckon it "won't" be over £1200.
All the best.

I think you're out of luck :

"The newly announced BDP-S5000ES does complement the existing Blu-ray Disc Player range with the BDP-S350 and BDP-S550. All those models use Sony’s award winning XrossMediaBar™, an easy to understand control menu that makes it simple for everybody to use all of the players’ functions."

Hi Kingfats!

I have just looked at pictures of the rear of this player, to examine the build panel thickness and to be honest, it makes me think that the price you mentioned could be quite accurate.........It will be interesting to know the retail price.

Thanks for the info and hope life is treating you well friend?

Genuine regards

Mark

Re: Sony BDP-S5000ES Anyone!

What I don't understand is how can you upscale/upconvert colour? I've heard of the ability of some players to upconvert 8bit to 10 and 12bit but I don't know how. I hasten to ask how you can make something from nothing, but then look at how much progress DVD upscaling has made in the last few years alone.

Nope.
I'm not sure how the upsampling (?) actually works to be honest mate.Process, increase the bit/depth of colour i'll leave that to the experts.
It's nothing new though my 989 DVD player can send component 12-bit colour.
All the best.
