I know- its a bloody rip off- HMV here in Ireland are a bunch of $^^%$^ merchants. There seems to be no price control here and they do whatever they like- especially sice Zavvi closed down. They practice 'price gouging'.
The Elephant Man was 28.99 but The Deer Hunter was 22.99...they jack up the prices on any titles they think are more desirable. 'Go' is 29.99...for an ancient catalog title? Monster's Inc. was 39.99 on release date- 2 weeks ago it was 24.99...last week back to 34.99...Ronin, don't laugh, at one branch is actually selling for 31.99...
Disgusting really, and the customer service there is appalling. Buy 99% of my discs online now.

EDIT By Mod for libel remark

The 'forced' English subtitles are missing...for example, when someone is speaking in German, no subs appear on screen so you have no idea what is being said.

Paid 28.99 euros for this at HMV in Dublin, Ireland
Ta for that. HMV prices might be comical (£45 for a David Gilmour at my local and £33 for Iron Maiden) but I might have to bite the bullet.

Re: The Elephant Man

Have to say I'm a little disappointed by the picture quality on the blu-ray- doesn't really pop like I've seen other b/w films on Blu-ray...maybe thats the look David Lynch was trying to achieve- and perhaps he was- the gritty, smokey, hazy look of old London. Anyway here's the only review I have found so far.....still, great film....
