Contact, Wizard of Oz, Heat, Gone with the Wind, North by Northwest & others

This has cropped up in other threads, but I thought I'd give it its own area, as this is a pretty decent selection. This is the UK Warners release schedule for October & November:

October 5: Gremlins
October 12: Contact; Dances with Wolves
October 19: Friday the 13th (1980); Ghost Ship
November 2: Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory; The Wizard of Oz
November 9: Heat; The Negotiator
November 16: Gone with the Wind; The Green Mile; North by Northwest; The Towering Inferno

I'll be opting for Contact, Heat and NXNW.

Of that lot...

Heat is a must-buy

North by Northwest and Gremlins for rental perhaps a buy.

Contact for rental. Perhaps Wizard of Oz too.

Re: Contact, Wizard of Oz, Heat, Gone with the Wind, North by Northwest & others

Contact, Heat, The Wizard of Oz, North by Nortwest and The Towering Inferno are all must haves for me. I ordered them this morning, when most of them were under £10, but it looks like they all just jumped in price now.

I might also get Gone With the Wind, it should look amazing, but as a film I'm not actually that fond of it despite its classic status.

I'm most excited about the first Hitchcock on Blu. North by Northwest already looked outstanding on DVD, so this should be eye-popping.

Will Dances with Wolves be the theatrical cut or the better (in my opinion) longer cut ?

Hmmmmmmm. VistaVision.

Regarding the prices - these are currently howing as £17.99 at full price, with no discount.

Going on Amazon's track record with WB titles in this price range I'd expect the selling point to start at £12.99 on release, then reduce to around £10.

Re: Contact, Wizard of Oz, Heat, Gone with the Wind, North by Northwest & others

Posted in pretty much every other Contact forum so might as well here

Seems the release dates are pretty similar to the Region A counterparts.

All I wish is that Warners give it a Grade A transfer as it's probably in my top 10 all time films.

Still never seen NBNW so if it looks fantastic (and by all accounts the movie is too) I'll probably give it a blind buy.

One of the greatest pleasures is seeing these old movies (be it 60/50/40's) looking so amazingly great in HD when one has only ever seen them on tv.

I hope so ... great film, but for some reason I've always missed seeing the longer cut, its getting on for 4 hours, right?

As for Contact ... Bring it on

Gremlins is a maybe for me and North by Northwest and The Towering Inferno are definitely purchases.
