Star Wars: The Clone Wars Blu-ray Review

Reviewed by Cas Harlow, 7th November 2009
Star Wars: The Clone Wars makes good use of this pinnacle in the Star Wars timeline, taking advantage of the wealth of conflicts that arise during these all-important years, the treachery, political machinations and deaths along the way as planets are conquered and battles are waged. With plenty of Jedi action and the Jar-Jar Binks factor kept to a relative minimum, this collection of the first 22 episodes is a quality offering, with plenty of action, adventure and peril for fans, young and old. On Blu-ray it is difficult to know how anything could look much better than this digitally animated show, and the soundtrack offers up a decent enough aural accompaniment. Individual behind the scenes Featurettes for every single episode mark a nice touch and overall this is a superb First Season Box Set. And Region Free too. Highly recommended for fans of the Star Wars Universe, particularly those disappointed with the way the prequel trilogy seemed to skip this, the best bit. Quality.

Is this really that good Cas? I've recently got hold of a copy of the Clone Wars movie, but not watched it yet....noticed the IMDB score on my media streamer though and it was a lowly 5.4

Re: Star Wars: The Clone Wars Blu-ray Review

Well I was a bit disappointed by the Clone Wars movie itself, a couple of different reviewers here rated it a 7, I think, although I think the point behind those scores was that it's pretty good for kids as well as adults.

As for the TV show, like any show there are always lacklustre episodes, but this one only has a few, and the rest are pretty damn enjoyable - and well interlinked. If you like Star Wars then you'll probably get hooked into all this Expanded Universe stuff, and I certainly was, making this a must-buy for me.

Giving ratings out of ten is generally difficult, but this deserves a higher score than the Pilot movie.

Hope that helps, Cas

Just don't give up before you see the Lair of Grievous episode - quality standalone episode that defo shows the potential that this show has. Cas

Re: Star Wars: The Clone Wars Blu-ray Review

Lucas lost the plot years ago, Jar Jar says it all, if you have ever seen THX1138, you will know Lucas as a director and his potential.
Maybe making kids movies has made him think like one, playing out his scripts with his golden goose figurines.
I remember seeing Star Wars a s a kid, and waiting in line maybe an hr before seeing the movie, did that 2 times.
I doubt I will ever get that feeling again, and especially from George, King of the nerds..
Does he try and make movies for anyone else bar his fans?
At least Star Trek 2009 did not alienate movie goers with a new fresh approach.
Lucas has done some good things, like THX sound, the push for Digital cinema, but his bad things out way the good..
Star wars has been ruined, what was the force?? A virus??
Somethings should just have been better off left alone..
Now I can only clench my fond memories of what was, not was is now..
I feel better now, thx for letting me vent...

Interesting combo of criticisms, there. The most startling being the accusation that Lucas only makes movies for his fans - the very people who gave up on him since Greedo shot first (and they've barely cut him any slack since then).

No matter, because finally Star Wars has found its true place, as a tv serial. Lucas's best efforts - Star Wars, Indiana Jones - were heartfelt tributes to the cliffhanger serials of yesteryear. That Star Wars lives on in this format is really quite fitting.

I watch this in the gym every night, I haven't seen one truly bad episode yet.

Re: Star Wars: The Clone Wars Blu-ray Review

I was a little dissapointed with the film - it's ok, but not great. Of the half-dozen or so episodes of the series that I've seen on Cartoon Network, they are really good. My 7 year-old is receiving the Blu-ray of the series for Christmas, whether he wants it or not (luckily, he does).
