Hi,

New to the forums - hopefully you'll bear with me.

I'm having some problems play HD DVD's on the Pioneer. I'm going to apply the latest firmware (4.17), but I'd also like to have it be region free in playback.

Can anyone help with easy step by step instructions on how to do this please?

Comments/advice about HD DVD playback also most welcome

just done a google search for you on this recorder , and according to the results it does not play either type of HD disks , so I think you are wasting your time trying to use any HD disks in this recorder

at no point are HD disks of either type mentioned

as for multi region , it appears it can be done but I suppose it may need a service remote or something similar like the sony does


so what makes you think it does HD disks ?

Thanks for the info. Of course, you're quite correct, I had simply assumed that for this kind of money replay of HD DVD's would be a forgone conclusion. Silly? Moi?!

if you had wanted to play HD dvd,s then you could look for a toshiba or similar player , but as that format is discontinued leaving blu-ray then you may need a blue ray player or use a ps3 instead

I think you may be getting mixed up with the Blueray Dvd Player they market here

known as the Pioneer BDP-LX70 Blu-ray PLayer , not dvr but bdp

there are no recorders incorporating bluray in the uk as yet , so your recorder has no HD dvd playing abilities of either format

I have the sony 970 myself , and the sony 1070 is similar to what you have bought in terms of hdd size ( 500 gig ) , and these x70 sony models are really rebadged pioneers and use the pioneer service remote or a one4all remote or a laptop or pda for making them region free , as discussed on the forums here in a massive thread

so I would assume a similar fix is needed to make your recorder region free
