It never is

They always leave something out ... or break something else.

...but the removal of the EPG advert is to be welcomed.

I wonder if this support 1080/50p for HD camcorder?

As it said on this site: Link - scroll down to 1080/50p and it said support on spring 2012 model.

And hopefully with RGB input!

Same for me

Also I am looking at being able to stream MKV/FLAC files from my NAS.

Does the older model have a problem with MKV/FLAC files or are they okay?

From what I can find out, this model will NOT play MKV files via DLNA but will do so from a USB stick.

I can't believe they produce all this information and don't even make reference to RGB. I wonder if the fact that there's no mention of RGB means that it's not present?

I don't infer that in this case.

Panasonic have never ever given this information in their site brag sheets....It has only ever appeared in the specific manuals.

Hopefully that does actually mean scart IN and not just scart RGB through.

I suppose it's not worth phoning Panasonic technical support is it? Will anyone there have a clue what the question means or more to the point, will they know any more than us about the new product!

They may have a paper manual they could refer to... but whether they could accurately understand and correctly interpret what they are seeing would be less certain.

I'm surprised we have not had a user yet who has got one of these machines.

I might be purchasing one of these ready for my region digital switchover on June 13th so I've made a few enquiries.

Panasonic Lakeland store are expecting their first delivery at the end of May @ £499. They claim that there have been no supplies of this model in Europe yet.

John Lewis Bluewater quote an "after May 14th" date for delivery but, to save time for anyone enquiring later, their stock number is 85871109. Price £499

The cheapest pre-order price that I've found is at Forum hifi, Nottingham @ £470 inc VAT, delivery and 1 year warranty
www.forumhifivisual.co.uk
They don't expect much stock on the first delivery but have a "waiting list" that you can join.

John Lewis now have an estimated stock availabilty date from Panasonic of 21st May.
They say that this normally means a delivery date seven days later (28th May) but they will phone me to confirm

I'm assuming this new model will carry the Rovi Guide? One point for potential concern is that their EPG does apparently have the ability to embed advertising, lets just hope Panasonic don't take the option up this time...

It is a specific feature that this time they have wised up and finally done away with the advertising banner.

Laskys are now offering the Panasonic DMR-BWT720EB for £470 delivered:

John Lewis (2 year warranty) should price match, whenever they receive stock

Strange that Laskys don't mention anywhere in the spec the ability to copy to Blu-ray disc, which I thought was the main selling point?

Still, looks like a price war even before it eventually becomes available!

You will definitely be able to do that.

It is the machine's raison d'etre.

Does that include Freeview HD recordings?

Will you be able to watch the UK recorded Blu-ray copies on another machine?

I think that this might well be be the reason for the Panasonic DMR-BWT720EB release hold up in Europe

Yes - That has always been possible on this class of machine.
As said - it is the whole point of them.

Yes - provided you do it the right way and the other machine supports the file format.

What hold up are you referring to?
The release roll out seems to be proceeding as one would expect: April /May promotion followed by June hardware delivery.

It may be helpful to read the sticky thread about these machines which provides information of the general functioning of this class of machine... which is here.

Thanks for the info

We go over to Freeview in my area on June 13th and the ability to record (and archive to Blu-ray disc) Freeview HD transmissions will be a BIG bonus for me

I've been struggling with "Non Freesat-mode" recordings for HD content on my Humax Freesat box for the last year (the record from EPG set timer doesn't work) so the ability to record Freeview HD content (especially being able to archive to Blu-ray disc and watch on any player ) will definitely swing me to this Freeview Blu-ray recorder - when it arrives!

SD copies will be fine

The low price worries me somewhat believe it or not !! When you look at the 800 model and what price that started out at, this one seems a lot cheaper. I hope it doesn't mean that they've left something important out.
