No Resume function on a Philips DVDR5570H dvd recorder

When I start playing a video on a CD or DVD , then go to have a look what is currently on the TV channel , I can not go back to the video position where I left watching from.
Does this mean the unit has no Resume ?
Also when I am viewing say half way watching a video ,if I then click on "disc" ,the unit looses the previous video position from where I left from.
Also why do some avi on disc have Macrovision , when my old Sharp DVD recorder also had Macrovision ,but did not distort videos on disc just because they where originally transferred from VHS to dvd ?

This unit does have a resume playback feature ... but only for certain types of disc [ unspecified ] ... In other words probably 'normal' DVD's but not PC derived files.

This from the manual:
Helpful Hints:
– This recorder has resume playback ability
(for certain type of disc). Press PLAY to
resume playback or press OK to start
playback from the beginning.
What about pausing the playback instead of stopping it... whilst you switch to TV?

I doubt any distortion will be due to macrovision.
Is it likely that you are playing NTSC video whilst in PAL mode?

Thank u for your reply, I since Learnt that, the macrovision was not a macrovision problem ,but the fact there are avi video that display with a Full header and other avi videos with a Limited basic header(Philips DVDR5570H will not play these ones with Limited basic header).
The header of a avi video is all the information that is required that tells it the size, how many frames, the Length, etc.
I notice if I re-encode these Limited basic header avi with Virtualdub that it creates full headers ,making the video able to be played by any Video player.

2.- Also found out Resume works on DVD VOB only,(No matter what type of Disc) this is a pitty because my old Sharp DVD player has capability of Resuming avi video ,even after STANDBY had been on. Also my old Sharp has the capability of playing one video avi after the other without any interrupted display bars( preparing for video playback) that was also stupid of PHILIPS !!
3- Also the hard drive remains ON even when just viewing TV and is quite Noisy. I wish I had red all the reviews before I had purchased this unit, I would have bought a SONY or PANASONIC instead.

The philips buffers everything to the hard disk (for 6 hours) thats why the recording quality you set affects even "live" Tv playback. I have to say, despite its other drawbacks, the hard disk on mine is completely inaudible.
(But they have stolen 22gb, and wont give it back)
