DVD Ram

Hi, is it possible to copy the video on a dvd ram disc with a pc, as I want to record programs (6 nations rugby) for my Dad in the US but my dvdr will only burn region 2 and I want to be able to burn region free.
Ie copy onto ram disc from tv (dvdr)then rip from ram disc to normal dvd, region free (pc)

Re: DVD Ram

whilst your recorder may be locked to region 2 for playback , I dont believe it locks to region 2 on recording , so I do not think that is the issue here

as for transferring to the pc , you need to check if your pc reader or burner can actually read a ram disk , as if it can then I dont see any problem there

the problem as I see it is that you will be recording in pal at 50 hz and he will be trying to play it on ntsc at 60hz , so I suspect its more of a compatibility issue and not a region issue

Re: DVD Ram

The discs that DVDR's produce are all region free.

To do anything with your discs on a PC will require a drive that can read RAM discs. Most cannot . They are rare
[ Although cheap and easy to replace with ones that will - unless its a laptop]

As ramjet points out , the big issue will be the video standard.

Dual standard handling capability in TV sets [ Pal /NTSC ] is commonplace and almost universal here but not so common in the US.

Re: DVD Ram

thanks for the quick response my recrorder is region free for playback (beside the point) I can read the ram disc but cannot play it and have no idea how to convert the ram file to dvd. I have dvdfab software and roxio software.

Re: DVD Ram

even if you manage to copy the dvd ram disk from the pc reader or burner to your hdd you would still have to re-author it and also try to make it ntsc compatible , so I would suggest you go have a look at videohelp.com and see what can be done after the footage is on your pc hdd

I use a dvd +RW verbatim to transfer footage from my sony 770 recorder into my pc hdd , then I re-author using TMPGenc dvd author and burn a dvdr disk , but I am not trying to make mine ntsc compatible

in the uk we can usually play pal and ntsc , but as gav says in the usa its less likely to be pal compaible so I think you will struggle to produce a disk in ntsc 60 hz mode that would play on his player and tv successfully
