In theory only, if I were to have a feature-film in '.avi'-format on a USB pen-drive, would I be able to view it on my TV-set by playing it through a DVD-recorder? If so, can you recommend a DVD-recorder, preferably with a hard drive, with a USB-slot which could be so utilised, please?

Furthermore, my TV set is a Panasonic (with Freeview built-in). Is there any advantage to buying a suitable DVD-recorder of the same make?

Yes it can be done... but with certain models only which must support USB and DivX

Beat me to it,

I'm using the EX88 and it works great. (I only bought the 88 vs the 78 because my wife wanted the VCD playback). The remote control handset is also quite nice and it will operate your Panasonic TV's main functions.

I think he meant DVC - 'Digitial Video camera' support for Panasonic Hard Disc video cameras which can be linked by USB.

Otherwise the only difference with the EX88 is bigger hard disc and an SD card slot.
