Question Philips DVDR3005H Digital Video Recorder/DVD Recorder & Directv - Unable to record

Hey all!

Technical Specificationss:
DVDR: Philips Hard Disk/DVD Recorder DVDR3300H
Cable Provider: Directv
Connection: Same results connecting through standard coaxial and (forgetting the name--embarassing) the cables with Red/White/Yellow connectors.
Signal Progression: Satellite->Directv Reciever->PhillipsDVDR->TV&HometheaterSoundreciever
TV: Standard

Problem:
I bought the DVDR about a year ago, and have not had any problems recording or viewing anything up until about a month and a half ago (early January 2008) when the darn thing started telling me that anything off of broadcast & Directv signal could not be recorded due to copy protection. Now, I had been recording merrily to the harddrive and then disc for the better part of a year, and then all of a sudden the machine is "unable" to write to either. It will not let me record from the buffer or as a timed record. I suspect this is due to something Directv changed in the way the send their signal, but have been unable to find any meaningful documentation on the net or on their website. Has anyone experienced this or any similar problems? Do I need to just buck up and get a different DVR/DVDR? I don't really want to go through Directv for my recording equipment, but maybe that is my only option? Any help or guidance will be very VERY appreciated.

Josh

Re: Philips DVDR3005H Digital Video Recorder/DVD Recorder & Directv - Unable to recor

Welcome to the forum Josh.

Firstly I suggest you try a power reset to the DVDR - [ Disconnect from the mains for 10 minutes]

This will reset the control system which may have latched with some corruption.

I suggest you do the same with the cable box [ maybe try that first].

If that produces no change, then - if you have any other signal source - try recording into the same input. Assuming that is clear with no restriction, that makes the cable supplier - or box the culprit.

In which case contact Directtv.

Good luck
