Twin Tuner DVD recorders

I have been looking for a Twin Tuner PVR or DVD Recorder which will allow me to watch a VM program whilst recording a different VM channel but I have come to the conclusion that no such animal exists. All the twin tuners appear to be linked to Freeview and as far as I have been able to ascertain, they certainly allow you to watch one program and record another provided it is on Freeview but will not allow you to record a VM program.

Am I wrong or does anyone know of a twin tuner recorder that allows you to do this without costing the earth. If Sky and VM can do it with their own boxes, why can't the other manufacturers do it?

I assume VM = Virgin media. what you are asking isn't possible - the twin tuners in Sky + and V+ boxes mean they can process 2 channels at once. If your cable box has a single tuner it can only handle one channel at a time and so your dvd recorder can only get to see the one channel that is being output from the cable box

Other manufacturers do it for them.... but that is the whole point of Sky and VM.

They are economic models based on their own delivery systems with value added services. They are designed to make money.... which is radically different from Freeview services which are based on public service broadcasting.

Re: Twin Tuner DVD recorders

Many thanks No Idea and Gavtech for responding. At least I know now that if I want dual recording, I have no choice but to take up VM's (Virgin Media's) V+ system.

My only concern is that once you have committed yourself to £150 for the box, you really have no control over VM's future pricing should they decide to introduce a monthly fee again. I know that is unlikely right now due to the Sky/VM conflict but who knows what will happen in the future.

PS I'm not normally pessimistic but I have been with Cable and Wireless/NTL/Virgin Media since its inception and nothing would surprise me!
