Panasonic DMREX77 - Questions!

I am thinking of buying one of these, does any one know the answer to a couple of questions.

1- Is it possible to record directly from a VCR onto a DVD disc or the hard drive, then burn it onto a disc. I know it is a analogue signal but I did not know if it had some kind of converter built into it.

2 - I have a Canon Mini DV video camera, again is it possible to burn directly onto a disc.

Thanks

Re: Panasonic DMREX77 - Questions!

1. Yes, it's what all DVD recorders do - convert from analogue to digital on the fly (though it will not record commercial tapes as they're usually copy protected).

2. Yes, it has an iLINK DV Input port on the front of the machine specifically for linking up to video cameras.

Regards

Mark

Hi Dougan: I have just come across this post while Googling. I too have a Canon MIni DV camcorder and want to transfer recordings onto the Panasonic DMR-EX77. Have you done it, and if so I would be grateful for any tips.

Regards,
John

Re: Panasonic DMREX77 - Questions!

Hi John

I have heard of some Canon camcorders failing to function properly with Panasonic DVDR's ... However... this only involves connection via the DV input and i think only involves some of the automatic features - None of which are spectacular or missed by their absence.

There is actually no great benefit feeding in via DV in anyway - so a camcorder can always be fed in by the analogue inputs alongside [ preferably s-video] if there are any DV connection problems.

Thanks, Gavtech - once again you come to my assistance!

As you are aware, I am new to all this. I think I understand what you mean when you say "a camcorder can always be fed in by the analogue inputs alongside [ preferably s-video] if there are any DV connection problems."

Do you mean the yellow, white and red sockets and s-video socket on the front of the DVDR? If so, are you saying that I can get away with just using the s-video socket for my camcorder and ignore the coloured ones?

Warm regards
John

Hi John

Yes I do mean the yellow white red sockets.

The yellow socket carries composite video.[ poor quality] If your camera has a s-video out, then use that. [ much better quality].

The S video connector only carries video information, so if you were to use this method, you would also need to connect the red and white phonos to provide a sound connection also.
[... and select A3 as the input on the DVDR ]

Good luck
