You will see a big improvement in pq compared to scart, little or no diff between Hdmi and component

Looks like the sony RDR-HXD870S is a very good value for money recorder

I have been a bit dissapointed with the quality of the tuner in the 870B I have. The colurs are a bit voerblown and it's not as sharp going ot the Sony LCD through HDMI as the built in TV tuner. Other than that at £250 street price you're not goign to get a better machine.

I have just got the 870, and it is a great bit of kit for the money - I can't see that you will get anything better in this price range.

I moved from a 2 year old Sony (HXD710), and am a bit disappointed that a few things have gone backwards - the on screen displays are much worse and the programming and guide are not as good as on the old model.

These are relatively minor complaints though, as the machine is excellent value for money overall.
